Description[edit]

The Eris began as an attempt by Nashan Diversified to branch out of IndustrialMechs and into BattleMechs along with the Inner Sphere's other major BattleMech manufacturers. It was originally called the Hel, but the LCAF rejected the design, and Nashan Diversified was only able to sell a few to mercenaries and various governments within the former Free Worlds League before Defiance Industries stopped supplying Nashan with necessary components to what had become a competitor.[2] [3]

Left with a powerful 'Mech it was no longer able to build, Nashan sold the specifications for the Hel to Kallon Weapon Industries, who went on to redesign the 'Mech as a skirmisher ideally suited for the sort of fighting that was going on in the former Free Worlds League following the end of the Jihad.[2][3]

Weapons and Equipment[edit]

The armament of the Hel was very similar to that of the Wolverine, which was also manufactured by Kallon. As such, they tried to distinguish the Eris by adding a partial wing, which improved its mobility in rough terrain and also allowed them to market it as a competitor to the Phoenix Hawk being sold by Earthwerks. The energy weaponry that the Hel had used were replaced with a Fusigon Smarttooth snub-nose PPC and three Diverse Optics small X-Pulse lasers, and the Hel's single Streak Missile Launcher were replaced with a pair of Holly MML-5s fed from two CASE II protected ammo bins.[2]

Variants[edit]

  • HL-1 Hel
Manufactured by Nashan's Furillo production lines, the Hel featured the same Endo Steel frame and 250-rated XL engine as the later Eris, likewise clad in ten tons of armor produced under the Nashan brand, along with proven Nashan communications and targeting systems. Offensively the Hell carried a Defiance 980 Heavy PPC in its right arm, supported by a Defiance Sting-3 Streak SRM-6 fed by single ton CASE II protected ammo bay in left torso and pair of Blazefire Longshot ER medium lasers in the left arm. Four extra double heat sink were carried instead of the later version's partial wing.[2] BV (2.0) = 1674[3]
  • HL-2 Hel
The only factory produced variant of the Hel, the HL-2 swaps the Heavy PPC for a pair of standard Large Lasers. In a nod to easy refit, Nashan offered the entire HL-2 right arm assembly for sale as a spare parts package. BV (2.0) = 1549[3]
  • ERS-2H
Save for different component manufacturers, this variant was functionally identical to the HL-1 Hel, and became popular after Clan Wolf conquered Thermopolis, cutting off access to new Wolverines.[2]
  • ERS-3R
Designed to act as a heavy striker and interdictor, this variant replaced the MML-5s with RL-10s and added an Angel ECM suite, as well as additional armor.[2]
