XXXII Corps (or the Thirty-Second Corps) was one of the seventy-two Corps that made up the Star League Defense Force.[1] It was unique in that it had a large number of independent regiments, twice the SLDF norm.[2]

History

In 2764 XXXII Corps was part of the 14th Army, assigned to District 1 of the Draconis Combine Military Region. It patrolled borders between the Lyran Commonwealth, Draconis Combine, Federated Suns, and Terran Hegemony. The Terran Hegemony/Draconis Combine border was quiet, but the Combine's border with its two neighbors was considerably more lively. XXXII Corps elements had to deal with pirates and small House units that conducted raids.[2]

Commanded by an infantry officer, the component commands of the XXXII Corps often pitted BattleMech units against infantry commands. This provided the units with a great deal of experience against their foes. For quick response, the corps stationed a mixed battalion of troops (called a Mike Force) on JumpShips that could rapidly deploy to trouble zones. Each of these forces was "on call" for no longer than a month.[2]

The 410th Division was often assigned to ceremonial or "show the flag" duties, so the SLDF High Command assigned more independent regiments to XXXII Corps to compensate.[2]

When the simmering violence and rebellion building in the Periphery erupted with the New Vandenberg Uprising and subsequent Periphery-wide uprising in 2765 XXXII Corps was deployed into Districts 2 and 3 of the DCMR, along with the rest of the 14th Army, to backfill for units deployed into the Periphery Military Region.[1]

The 12-year long Hegemony Campaign inflicted heavy losses on XXXII Corps; five of the seven divisions within the Corps were destroyed, along with two of the four independent regiments and the independent aero wing, leaving the Corps operating at less than a third of its pre-war combat strength.[1]

When General Aleksandr Kerensky led the bulk of the surviving SLDF on the Exodus, the majority of the units within XXXII Corps followed him; only the 3rd French Infantry Regiment chose to remain behind, joining the Capellan Confederation[1]
