The Emris system was home to at least one habitable world, Emris IV, and as of 3145 was located in the Oriente Protectorate region of the Free Worlds League.[2][3]

System Description[edit]

Emris is located near the Kyeinnisan and Nova Roma systems.[4] The system consists of at least five worlds orbiting a class G3V primary. The world of Emris V is home to a small military outpost.[1]

System History[edit]

The Emris system was settled during the First Exodus from Terra.[5]

Emris IV is the fourth planet in the Emris system. Emris has one moon named Lot.[1]

Planetary History[edit]

The Star League[edit]

In 2763, several members of the Sixty-seventh BattleMech Division were court-martialed for stealing missile shipments from the Holly Industries planet in Ivanograd. The soldiers were taking the ammunition to cover shortages that were caused in part by a Free Worlds League mandate that prevented StarCorps Industries and Holly Industries from selling to the SLDF directly.[31]

Third Succession War[edit]

After his victory on Nova Roma, Anton Marik targeted Emris for attack in 3014. The world was home to several important industrial centers and Anton believed a victory here against Marik Militia units could help win over some wavering Parliament members to his side.[14]

Wolf's Dragoons' Alpha Regiment and Gamma Regiment combined to overrun the industrial area at Ivanograd. Meanwhile the Beta Regiment with Zeta Battalion and the Fire Support Group attacked the planetary capital of Urseinova. The Marik Militia's improvised defenses proved formidable so Colonel Jeremy Ellman's Beta Regiment took weeks to secure the capital.[14]

During the fighting in Urseinova, Beta's Able Battalion, The Cavaliers, had a tough time rooting out Marik infantry units. The construction style of the local buildings made each one a small fortress. Major Nikos Palassis was in his Warhammer BattleMech when he hit a concealed vibrabomb that downed his machine. Hidden Marik armor then poured fire into his machine. Nike was wounded and had to be pulled out of the firefight by his assault company led by Captain Alicia Fancher.[14]

In the end, the Dragoons would secure Emris for Anton Marik.[14]

Dark Age[edit]

In 3081 the Oriente Weapon Works plant on Emris IV signed a trade agreement which ensured that the armed forces of the Duchy of Oriente would be given first priority to all products.[32]

The Regulan Fiefs raided Emris IV in 3095; the Tenth Regulan Hussars were the regiment tasked with the raid, and were keen to prove their loyalty after the stigma of having colluded with the Word of Blake during the Jihad. In their eagerness to prove themselves, the Tenth went well beyond the saber rattling exercise that the Fiefs had planned, and saw the Tenth actively clashing with Oriente Protectorate forces in the form of the Steel Guard.[33]

Three squads of infantry from the Tenth equipped with Ogre battle armor suits were attempting to secure a route out of the combat zone to a rendezvous point when they were ambushed by a short platoon of Vedette medium tanks. The Tenth's battle armor was able to prevail over the Protectorate tanks, in part by using the intimidating appearance of their suits and partly through splitting their forces to allow the squad equipped with Mimetic Armor to get behind the Protectorate armor and disable two of the Vedettes. BattleROM footage released after the battle showed the Ogre suits tearing into the tanks with their Heavy Battle Claws, and this when combined with images of SRM explosions and a hefty dose of imagination managed to both generate an impressive reputation for Ogre suits in general and save the Tenth some embarrassment.[33]

In 3146, the Regulan Hussars conquered Emris in the Battle of Emris (3146).

Geography[edit]

Emris IV has three continents named Dinas, Glaslyn, and Snowden.[1]

Planetary Locations[edit]

  • Ivanograd: the location of the Holly Industries plant during the Star League era[31] and of the StarCorps Industries plant[1]
  • Smirnoff: the location of the planetary militia facilities on Dinas[1]
  • Urseinova: the planetary capital city and location of a significant StarCorps Industries/Holly Industries plant[1]

Planetary History[edit]

During the later years of the Jihad the Emris planetary militia was able to purchase a lance of BattleMechs from the local StarCorps Industries facility; this BattleMech lance used to visit Emris V twice a year, rotating to the small military outpost there for several weeks at a time.[1]

Notes[edit]

The continents on Emris IV appear to be named for significant features found in the Gwynedd region of Wales on Terra. Snowdon is the name of the highest mountain in Wales, of which Snowden is a very common misspelling; Glaslyn is a lake located on the eastern flanks of Snowdon and is regarded by Welsh folklore as the lake associated with King Arthur and the magical sword Excalibur. Dinas is the name of a hamlet in Gwynedd close to Snowdon and Glaslyn, whilst Dinas Emrys is a rocky, forested hillock in Gwynedd and is the site of the remains of an Iron Age hill fort and various sets of fortifications dating to the Middle Ages. Dinas Emrys is variously associated with the young wizard Myrddin Emrys (Merlin) and the warlord Vortigern.
