The Gibbs system was home to at least one habitable world, Gibbs III, and as of 3145 was located in the Donegal Province of the Lyran Commonwealth.[2][3]

System Description[edit]

Gibbs is located near the Forkas and Tetersen systems[2][3] and consists of a class G9V primary orbited by at least three planets. During the thirty-first century a recharge station was in place at the system nadir jump point.[1]

System History[edit]

The Gibbs system was colonized at some point during or shortly after the First Exodus from Terra, and was a member of the Protectorate of Donegal prior to the foundation of the Lyran Commonwealth.[4]

Gibbs III, more commonly known simply as Gibbs, is the third planet in the Gibbs system, and has a single moon named Weatherly. In orbit above Gibbs at the L1 Lagrange Point is a major manufacturing complex, Ioto Orbital One, operated by Ioto Galactic Enterprises.[1]

Planetary History[edit]

Early History[edit]

Gibbs was the home of the Lockheed Corporation, until the Lockheed Corporation merged with CBM Aerospace of Donegal to form Lockheed-CBM Corporation at some point after the two companies formed an alliance by 2480 to build Thunderbird-class aerospace fighters for the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces.[31]

Succession Wars[edit]

On 24 August 3029, the Nickel's Boys pirates raided the cities New Davies and Bainbridge killing more than two thousand civilians in one of the worst atrocities of the Fourth Succession War era. In the city of New Davies the pirates used some of their BattleMechs to distract the city police and militia while the rest of the band looted every bank and repository in the city. On the way out of the city the 'Mechs walked through three hospitals and one school. In Bainbridge the Boys tried a new tactic. Instead of cowing the police and militia with their 'Mechs, they detoured around the city and destroyed the electrical junctions at the fusion plants that supply Bainbridge with electrical power. They then proceeded directly to the food storage facilities and set them ablaze, which drew most of the emergency responders away from the city itself. They were able to loot with impunity. The Boys were finally brought to justice in 3038 by a detachment of the Eighth Lyran Regulars, and all of them were executed after being convicted by tribunal for crimes against humanity.[32]

The Jihad[edit]

With the destruction of Alarion and the shipyards there, Gibbs was a critical industrial site for the Lyran Alliance during the late Jihad, as the shipyards here represented the Alliance's only JumpShip production facilities, as well as the only facilities capable of supporting the Alliance's diminished WarShip fleet.[33][34][1]

Geography[edit]

Gibbs has three continents named Murray, Pablo, and Perrette. Gibbs is a very dry world because its atmosphere is very thin and doesn't hold onto much water.[1]

Planetary Locations[edit]

  • Bainbridge: the largest city on Gibbs, located on Perrette, and base for the planetary militia and also attacked by Nickel's Boys[1][32]
  • New Davies: a city that suffered a raid by pirates known as Nickel's Boys[32]
  • Rolfson: the planetary capital city, located on Perrette; site of the Lockheed/CBM Corporation manufacturing plant[1]
