The Gallery system was home to at least one habitable world, Gallery I, and as of 3151 was located in the Wolf Empire.[4]

System Description[edit]

Gallery is located near the Chukchi III and Thuban systems[5][6] and consists of a class M5V primary orbited by at least one planet. During the thirty-first century recharge stations were in place at both the system nadir and zenith jump points.[1][2][3]

System History[edit]

The Gallery system was colonized at some point during or shortly after the First Exodus from Terra, and was a member of the Protectorate of Donegal prior to the formation of the Lyran Commonwealth.[7]

Gallery I, more commonly known simply as Gallery, is the innermost world in the Gallery system, and has a single moon named Romaine.[2][3]

Planetary History[edit]

Early History[edit]

Gallery was noteworthy for being another private holding of the Steiner family;[2] it was Gallery that Katherine Steiner chose to retire to after passing on rule of the Lyran Commonwealth to her son, Archon Alistair Steiner, in 2445.[8]

Margaret Olsen was sentenced to life imprisonment in a remote mountain fortress on the world after her defeat by Archon Robert Steiner[36]

Star League Era[edit]

In 2738, terrorists took over part of Gallery; the Ninety-seventh Mechanized Infantry Division of the Star League Defense Force was sent to handle the situation. The soldiers of the Ninety-seventh, also known as "The Troglodytes," were specially trained to deal with targets in subterranean locations. In the end, the Ninety-seventh divided the enemy into four sections via control of the tunnels and most of the terrorists surrendered. Those that did not, were killed.[37]

Succession Wars[edit]

Gallery was a daunting prospect, as any Would-be attacker who somehow managed to avoid scattering on their drop or deployment would have had to locate their objective on terrain devoid of either natural or manmade landmarks, as Gallery's main industries were located far from the few squat cities. The planet is honeycombed with long tunnels left by mining drones making extensive journeys for the rare pockets of gems and metals Gallery yields. The one attack ever made on Gallery, by the Free Worlds League Military, was a dismal failure. The League raiders never exited the tunnels, most likely dying of starvation.[1] Most of the population of Gallery lived underground, to avoid the extreme weather.[3]

During the Third Succession War, the Kelly Communications company on Gallery was the subject of a hostile takeover by Nashan Diversified. The takeover was in fact so hostile that shots were fired between Kelly security troops and Nashan agents, resulting in Nashan Diversified being subject to censure by the Lyran Commonwealth government.[38]

The Jihad[edit]

During the Jihad, as the Lyran Alliance Armed Forces took continuing losses from combat while the Word of Blake ravaged the military-industrial base of the Lyran Alliance the satellite systems produced by Nashan Communications and Entertainment on Gallery became increasingly important to the war effort. The satellite networks acted as force multipliers, offsetting some of the effective combat losses the LAAF suffered.[39] By 3079 the Dynamics Company was operating at 55% of its maximum output.[40]

Geography[edit]

Gallery has four continents named Axillon, Ludella, Penrodia, and Tyrillia,[3] and presents a barren surface to observers. The system's weak sun cannot penetrate the perpetual heavy cloud cover, and the planet is constantly swept by violent storms. Visual scans are useless on the surface, and the chilling storms drastically reduce equipment's effectiveness.[1] Gallery's severe climate is the result of its strangely oversized moon, Romaine, and its effects on the world's three vast seas. This same damp climate restricted the planet to receiving approximately five weeks of sunlight a year. These conditions combined to create a world where no life could grow.

Fortunately, imported plants were able to convert much of the atmosphere to oxygen, allowing humans to settle on the world. By the 2440s expansive dark forests had been planted.[2][44]

Planetary Locations[edit]
