Planetary History
First Succession War
A minor and unimportant system deep in Davion space, Cholame was abandoned by the AFFS as the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery drove towards New Avalon, with even the Draconis Combine skipping garrisoning the world. Sending an AFFS battlefleet into Kurita-held terrority in 2790 in the hope of destroying Combine naval forces to slow the offensive, Cholame was selected by taskforce commander Admiral Kenneth Jones as a rest and rendezvous point, unaware that the DMI had disastrously failed to discover that the Combine's own invasion armada had chosen Cholame as its own redoubt. [28] [29]
As soon as Admiral Jones' fleet entered the system, Kuritan AeroSpace Fighters immediately attacked the shocked Davion forces with a group of Kuritan WarShips close behind. The largest naval campaign either nation had ever fought, the Battle of Cholame would last a full six weeks as Admiral Jones darted between the system's jump points, desperately trying to buy enough time for at least some of his ships to escape. Ultimately over a hundred Davion WarShips, from small corvettes to Jones' own flagship the FSS Golden Lion had been lost, along with a equally large number of DropShips and AeroSpace Fighters, with less than a quarter of Jones' fleet able to flee. The only small comfort to the Davion forces was the fact that they had taken an equal number of Kuritan WarShips with them. [28][29]
