Sodus is a planet with an unusual geological feature. Tall earth-rooted crystals, known as Nikotrees, grow across the planet, officially protected by the Federated Suns and the planetary government. The crystals can grow from fragments five centimeters or larger, and can potentially keep growing taller for centuries. These traits make Nikotrees potentially dangerous in combat - a forest of Nikotrees will disrupt PPC fire and eventually strike nearby combatants, the discharge capable of damaging even BattleMech armor.

Sodus

Sodus is a planet with an unusual geological feature. Tall earth-rooted crystals, known as Nikotrees, grow across the planet, officially protected by the Federated Suns and the planetary government. The crystals can grow from fragments five centimeters or larger, and can potentially keep growing taller for centuries. Nikotrees are electrically conductive, and once their "roots" build up a strong enough charge, they can discharge electricity to other nearby conductors. These traits make Nikotrees potentially dangerous in combat - a forest of Nikotrees will disrupt PPC fire and eventually strike nearby combatants, the discharge capable of damaging even BattleMech armor.[37]

Planetary History[edit]

First Succession War[edit]

Sodus was invaded in 2792, as part of major invasion into the Federated Suns launched by the Draconis Combine in May 2791. Nikotrees disrupted the PPC-using Combine forces, but the invaders eventually took the planet.[9][37] Sodus was liberated by the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns in 2803 during the first major AFFS counteroffensive of the First Succession War against the Draconis Combine.[11]
