Overview[edit]

On 19 October 3150, the Wolves fell upon, Alula Australis, the third Republic of the Sphere world targeted in their push towards Terra. Both previous worlds had fallen easily, making Khan Alaric Ward wary that a trap awaited him here. He issued a batchall for the world and was accepted by Colonel Randolph Abasi and his Eleventh Principes Guards. Still suspecting a trap, Alaric refused to reduce his forces with further bidding. Abasi chose the Auroria Mines as the location for the Trial. As the Wolf forces advanced with the Silver Keshik at the head. The Principes sent headhunter flankers after Khan Ward from the very beginning, but these were all destroyed by skirmishers piloting Mist Lynxes in the P and K configurations.[1][2]

Undeterred, the Wolves advanced, right into an ambush planned by Captain Ian Schneider. Artillery rained down upon the Silver Keshik, their explosive force tearing apart not only armor, but the ground above long-abandoned mineshafts which swallowed several Wolf ’Mechs. Simultaneously Lieutenant Marty Fowler's lance of Archers perched on an overlooking rock shelf poured accurate fire into the Keshik. Their aim was to take down Khan Ward's Savage Wolf, and bring an early end to the assault on the Republic. Enraged by this duplicity the Ninth Wolf Guards Striker and Seventy-ninth Wolf Battle surged forward, with several Stars of Striker Dominators leading the charge. Meanwhile Black Wolf battle armor jumped to the cliffs and began tearing apart Fowler's Archers. As the main forces clashed together, a Star of fast OmniMechs, including a Mist Lynx J quickly located and destroyed the dishonorable artillery tubes and launchers.[1][2][3][4]

Anchored by a group of Axmans the Principes engaged in hand-to-hand combat, which met with stiff resistance from the Strikers' Dominators. Republic forces did learn of a flaw with the Large Laser that caused critical failure, but when they tried to exploit it the Dominators simply used their superior speed to disengage. As the Strikers and Guards clashed with the Principes, the Keshik was able to disengage and hunt down the command lance. To repay him for his treacherous tactics, Khan Ward killed Colonel Abasi in single combat.[1][3]

Aftermath[edit]

Captain Schneider was last seen when the headquarters was overrun, but his final fate is unknown.[2] Lieutenant Fowler was taken as a bondsman, but because of his dishonorable concentration of fire he was considered unlikely to regain Warrior status.[4] Now one jump from Terra, Khan Ward sent a JumpShip to the system to bid for the world, only for it to return mangled, another victim of the Fortress Republic. Determined to find away through the Wall he continued working on it, eventually leading to the Battle of Terra.[1]

Notes[edit]

Initially two locations[3][2] listed the defending unit is listed as the Eleventh Triarii Protectors. A series of updates in 2023 brought the unit designation inline with other sources[1] as the Eleventh Principes Guards.
