Star Colonel Tara was the commander of the 305th Assault Cluster, and unblooded warrior of the Helmer Bloodhouse, from at least 3058 to 3067.[1][2][3]

Tara was a young Star Colonel in 3058, when the understrength 305th Assault Cluster participated in the Jade Falcon Incursion, fighting on Neerabup and Coventry against the Lyran Alliance.[3] After her Cluster suffered even more casualties on Coventry, Tara focused on rebuilding her command, sending some of her newly blooded warriors to capture warriors and equipment in Trials of Possession against Clan Steel Viper and other Falcon units. The strengthened 305th was then able to assist in Galaxy Commander Gran Newclay's revenge against the Steel Vipers, ejecting them from the Inner Sphere.
Subsequently hoping to halt any Clan Wolf adventurism into the Clan Jade Falcon Occupation Zone, Star Colonel Tara repeatedly petitioned Galaxy Commander Newclay for permission to declare Trials of Possession against nearby Wolf worlds, but was denied by Newclay. In response, in 3062, Tara announced her intention to contest the next Grand Melee for a Helmer Bloodname, which may have been the reason for her keenness for action.[1]
She however did not succeed in this endeavor, as while she was still in charge of the 305th Assault Cluster as of July 3067, she remained without a Bloodname.[2]

In 3072, there was a Star Captain Tara Helmer, who commanded a Nova within the Turkina Keshik, and assisted the Lyran Alliance's Third Lyran Guards to recapture Tharkad during the Word of Blake Jihad. While Star Colonel Tara was young enough to have been active in the 3070s, Tara Helmer's lower rank and different unit as of the Liberation of Tharkad, suggest they are not the same individual.
