Vance Lamont was the commanding officer of the Ceti Hussars and the New Avalon Combat Region as of 3067.[1]

History[edit]

Hauptmann General Vance Lamont commanded the First Ceti Hussars RCT in 3050 when they were stationed on Glenmora,[2] being promoted to Marshal by 3054 and relocated with the unit to Chahar.[3] In 3062, Lamont was still serving with the First Ceti on Pajarito. By that point, he had commanded the Hussars for more than a dozen years and had turned down numerous promotions, as he was unwilling to take any position that would remove him from field service (although he often stated his desire to take full command of the Ceti Hussars Brigade once Marshal Nebuchadnezzar Talles retired). Known for being publicly outspoken and an outstanding-yet-unorthodox tactician, Lamont had served as director of operations in every PDZ the First Ceti had been assigned to while under his command. This ended when Marshal Petra Nichols took command of the Bryceland PDZ, beginning an openly-hostile relationship between the two officers. This feud could have been caused by Lamont's support of Victor Steiner-Davion versus Nichols' support of Katherine Steiner-Davion but the Department of Military Intelligence believed it stemmed from an affair dating back to the two officers' attendance at Albion Military Academy.[4]

Civil War[edit]

When the Federated Commonwealth Civil War began, Lamont and the First Ceti did not act until the second wave of the conflict as a result of sabotage from Katherine-loyal officers falsifying records and sabotaging vital parts. Replacing his lost equipment by raiding the abandoned Third Lyran Guards' base on Pitkin and then proceeding to disarm the First Conroe Training Battalion on Tancredi IV, Lamont finished his preparations for an assault on Bryceland itself by getting the Third Davion Guards to agree to depart Kesai IV and meet in the Bryceland system. Lamont's forces dropped on Bryceland on 4 October 3063 and he focused his First Ceti Hussars on taking the massive Outland Beta Military Complex while the Third Guards and special forces teams hit other targets. Lamont successfully took Outland Beta with only two hundred casualties on both sides, although the Third Guards faced massive resistance from the Bryceland DMM and could not secure their objective alone. After several weeks of combat, the combined force of the Third Guards and First Ceti managed to force the DMM to flee to the continent of Fantos Island and hole up in the capital city of Harland's Port, although this forced Lamont to take a more slower, more methodical approach so as to not devastate the heart of Bryceland's civilization.[5]

Deciding to use focused aerospace assaults in order to avoid butchering tens of thousands of civilians, Lamont scraped together every DropShip and fighter craft he could in order to strike any exposed DMM units off the map. This continued for three months until, on 19 June 3064, Lamont's secretly-relocated special forces and elite infantry units began an attack on Harland's Port directly. Over the course of fourteen hours of fighting, these troops killed or captured every single DMM senior officer, leading to the DMM officially surrendering the planet to Marshal Lamont's control. Remaining on Bryceland for several more months to ensure its pacification, Lamont's last major act on the planet was to re-arm the Bryceland DMM and relocate both the First Ceti and DMM to Kesai IV in preparation for a possible Draconis Combine assault on that world, leaving the Third Davion Guards to garrison Bryceland on their own.[6]

Marshal Lamont sat out the rest of the war on Bremond, ensuring it remained secure and contributing to the Allied cause, although the First Ceti Hussars' Combat Command Bravo was battered and eventually evicted from Kesai IV by the Draconis attack Lamont had predicted would occur.[7]

Post-Civil War[edit]

After the Civil War ended, Lamont received a promotion to Field Marshal and was given control of both the Ceti Hussars brigade and the New Avalon combat region.[1]
