The Chahar system is home to at least one habitable world, Chahar II, and as of June 3152 was an independent world located in the Hinterlands.[2]

System Description[edit]

Chahar is located near the Blue Hole and Clermont systems[3][4] and consists of a class G0IV primary orbited by at least two planets. During the thirty-first century a recharge station was in place at the system zenith jump point.[1]

System History[edit]

The Chahar system was colonized at some point during or shortly before the Age of War, and was a member of the Lyran Commonwealth by the end of that era.[5][6]

Chahar II, more commonly known simply as Chahar, is the third planet in the system and has a single moon named Yonas.[1]

Planetary History[edit]

Chahar was first colonized in the late twenty-fourth century. At that time there was no life on the world, despite a large ocean and compatible biosphere. The colonists created mining settlements and chemical production facilities, but for many years the world had to import its own food which put a strain on the neighboring worlds' food production. A program by the Steiner government to import Terran plants and animals was a huge success: in 3025 Chahar produced enough food not only to feed itself but to export to other worlds.[1]

Star League[edit]

In the final years of the Star League, Chahar was the host to a Star League Defense Force garrison.[33] The planet was also host to DataCorp Industries, an interplanetary library network focused upon science and scholars.[34]

Succession Wars[edit]

In the aftermath of the Star League's collapse, Dobless Information Services was founded upon the remnants of DataCorp and throughout the Succession Wars its computer archives on Chahar were said to contain all of the universe's knowledge.[34]

Chahar worked hard to bring corporations to the planet, and by 3025 it had succeeded. In addition to headquartering Dobless, a Trellshire Heavy Industries weapons plant was built near its capital city.[1]

FedCom Civil War and after[edit]

By the time of the FedCom Civil War Chahar was acknowledged as one of the Lyran Alliance's two centers of the Hindu faith.[35]

During Clan Jade Falcon's Incursion of 3064, Chahar's defending Theater Militia unit managed to hold out for just over two weeks before being forced to retreat to Zhongshan.[36]

Chahar's loss to the Falcons led to repercussions both religious and corporate within the Lyran Alliance, as elements of both parties campaigned for military action to regain the world. Dobless Information Services CEO Seth Tobiason, as a means to this end, sought a seat in the Estates General as a representative of Ludwigshafen, in addition to proposing a mercenary expedition to reclaim Dobless' largest data archives. Meanwhile many enraged Lyran Hindus, reacting to reports that the Falcons were desecrating the sacred city of Benares, added their voices to the issue.[37][35][34]

Nonetheless, Chahar would remain under Jade Falcon control for nearly a century. Only in the chaotic aftermath of the Falcon warrior caste's near-destruction on Terra in 3151 did Chahar emerge from Clan control, becoming an independent world within the Hinterlands.[2][25]
