David Roy Lear was the eldest child of Kai Allard-Liao and Deirdre Lear. He would go on to help Devlin Stone with the formation of the Republic of the Sphere.

History[edit]

Early Life[edit]

David was born on Odell in 3052. He was named by his mother, after a deceased MechWarrior killed on Alyina, David Jewell, in an attempt to conceal the father's true identity (later revealed to be Kai Allard-Liao). He was raised by his mother on that planet for three years, until she left it, taking him with her, to the planet of Zurich.[4][5]

David resided on Zurich for a year, until a reportage depicting his mother after a heroic deed attracted the attention of Tormano Liao, Kai's uncle. After seeing a picture of David, Tormante correctly guessed his ascendancy, and invited Deirdre and her son to Solaris VII, where both become his personal guests on his house on Equatus, as de facto prisoners to force Kai to obey Tormano. Deirdre attempted an evasion with her son on 27 April 3056, which failed. Both were captured by Tormano's guards and she was to be executed when the guards were slaughtered by a team of Clan Jade Falcon Elementals, led by Kai's former enemy and later friend, Taman Malthus.[6]

After Kai defeated Tormano, Deidre was reconciled with him, and presented him his son.[7]

Jihad[edit]

During the Word of Blake Jihad, David vanished about 3067, and his family didn't hear about him until three years later. It was later revealed than he was held captive on a Blakist camp on Kittery, where he met another prisoner, Devlin Stone, becoming his friend and trusted man. David helped Stone to create the Kittery Prefecture, and later talked with his father, convincing Kai to present Stone to Victor Steiner-Davion, a meeting which became key to the creation of Stone's Coalition.[8]

Death[edit]

David died in early 3128, a loss which it was devastating for Devlin Stone. Cast adrift without his best friend and confident, he quickly became a virtual recluse, and two years later, he resigned and disappeared.[9]
