Description

The Hiryo (Flying Dragon) was Wing in Ground Effect Armor Transport produced by Pesht Motors of Unity & Pesht. The Vehicle is designed to carry Battle Armor infantry into the field while providing protection and firepower getting to the infantry's destination.

Development first began just after DCMS determined that there was a need for more infantry transports after the Combine-Ghost Bear War. The low flying transport was in competition with the Kio WiGE Transport produced by Wakazashi Enterprises for Draconis Combine's Procurement Department's contract. The Pesht won the competition to the dismay of Wakizashi, with intital Hiryo were ordered for evaluation.

The vehicle first saw action on Pesht, defending Pesht Motor's factory against the Word of Blake. A Squadron of the prototypes operating with the 4th Pesht Regulars in 3069. The Squadron took heavy damaged while attached the Regulars, but successfully defended the facilities. Vehicle saw action yet again on Pesht in 3071, this time against the Word's 29th and 42nd Shadow Divisions. The Divisions dispatched large number of Defiance and Shiva OmniFighters against the Pesht defenders. Several these fighters damaged by Hiryo when they flew too low. The Hiryos squadrons dropped off their Battle Armor compliments and they managed to stall the 29th Division's advance to the district capital. However, the Blakist used a tactical nuclear weapon, wiped out Combine forces and their Hiryos. The production line on Pesht was lost to Blakist forces, however product continued on Unity.

The vehicle usage was expanded include many forces garrisoning key worlds.

Armaments and Capacities

The Hiryo's only weapon is its Lords Light 2b Snub-Nose PPC, which mounted on its nose.

The vehicle has been given six tons of New Samarkand Heavy Ferro Fibrous armor to protect the vehicle from weapons fire.

The vehicle designed with Battle Armor Bay, which can carry up to 8 tons worth of the armored infantry.

Variants

  • Hiryo (Light PPC) - This is a Pesht Motors test variant which replaces the vehicle's Snub-Nose PPC for two Light PPCs to give the vehicle a longer range. (BV 2.0) = 686[1]
  • Hiryo (MRM) - This is more radical weaponry change, the vehicle Snub-Nose PPC is replaced by a Twenty-Tube Medium Range Missile Launcher. Mounted on the nose, vehicle has been given three tons of ammunition at the cost of 4 tons of its Battle Armor/Infantry Bay. Leaving it with only with 4 ton capacity. Vehicle been noted for ablity be more effected against soft targets, but the dubbed "Gunship" has made less popular with DCMS forces. BV (2.0) = 644[2]

Vehicle Notes

The Hiryo original premiered in Jihad Source book Jihad Hot Spots: 3072. The original imagine of the vehicle was drawn by Brent Dill.In later TRO: 3075, the imagine of the Hiryo was changed, drawn by artist Doug Chaffee. Noticibly the original vehicle's "grill" & single pair of "runners" or vector thrusters are missing from newer imagine of 3075 imagine. Also there was a change in the variant names. Originally, these were depicted in Record sheets of JHS:72 as Hiryo B and Hiryo C. Being replaced by weapon name that vehicle carries.
