Unit Description

The Iota Galaxy is a Clan Hell's Horses military formation, it was created as a dumping ground for warriors designated as Solahma and political opponents. Iota is used as pirate/bandit hunting unit, which despite its lack of displine, take pride in doing.[1]

History

Hell's Horses Exodus to the Inner Sphere

In 3070, Khan James Cobb decided Inner Sphere would be a better home for Hell's Horses than Clan space. He decided to invade Clan Wolf's space as part of payback for past transgression against the Clan.[2]

The galaxy would be split[3] with some Clusters being retained in the Homeworlds territories until last envoys would be completed. However, fighting among Homeworld Clans intensified and caused considerable damage to the Iota and its fellow garrison force, Eta Galaxy.

Number of Clusters were disbanded and consolidated to other Clusters when Galaxy finally arrived in Inner Sphere.[4]

Ice Hellion Invasion

Elements of the Galaxy noted in participating in the fighting against Clan Ice Hellion in 3071, where in November the Galaxy would noted in participation in taking worlds of Von Strang's World, Bensinger, Apollo and Toland.[5]

The elements of Iota would be part of a joint Jade Falcon-Hell's Horses Task force to take Vantaa from the Hellions. Iota along with Jade Falcon Galaxies of Alpha and Gamma Galaxies would engage in heavy fighting with Khan Khan Montose her forces for control of the planet. Battle to end the Clan Ice Hellion's Invasion would be successful. However, Iota would heavily damaged from the Hellion WarShip, CIH Cage's Pride.[6]

Notes

Conflicting Information: Masters and Minions: The StarCorps Dossiers and Jihad Secrets: The Blake Documents. This due in part, the older publication, Jihad Secrets, would list Iota as part of the forces fighting Ice Hellion in Clan Jade Falcon's Occupation Zone. Where Iota, participated in the final battle of that conflict. However, later Masters and Minions would list the unit as part of garrison force in the Homeworlds. The Galaxy's clusters would be so damaged that they would be disbanded, however it unclear if the entire galaxy or fragments of it were present there. Technical Readout: 3085 would list one of its Clusters, the 67th BattleMech, as part of a garrison for on Toland in 3085. However, no mention if entire galaxy still exists or not.[7][8][9]

Writers would later confirm Iota Galaxy was split into two elements, with half the galaxy journeying to the Inner Sphere, while the rest would remain in Home Worlds, being mauled by the fighting there.[10]
