Dropship / Small Craft Templates

Hi Rev, Happy New Year to you. I've been doing some Small Craft and DropShip articles as of late. I've noticed that the info boxes are lacking listing for Safe Thrust & Maximum Thurst. Is possible for you to added them to the info box? I've tried do it manually, but they don't appear when i enter them. -- Wrangler 16:18, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Sure. I can't do them /right/ now, but I should have made some attempt (maybe even succeed) by the end of the workday. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:48, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
Not rush, I'm not some task master or something! heh. I was going suggest to add slot for fuel too. Sorry keep imposing. I'm justing finding alot missing things in the template. I've changed the articles I've been doing's Armaments to Armaments & Capacities since there alot stuff cover that description doesn't cover or too much. -- Wrangler 17:01, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
I just added those fields to the dropship template. Unfortunately, I do not have the current information on those values as all I have is TRO 3057. It shouldn't be to much trouble to add them though. --Peregry 19:50, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks Peregry, Anything is better than nothing. I'm been just frustrated lacking ability to fix problems with existing templates. -- Wrangler 22:40, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
One hint, Wrangler, is to mimic what already exists. For example, I had a HUGE learning curve when trying to figure out how to adopt infoboxes (from WP) onto this site. But, since then, I've forgotten a lot of what I've learned. When I do have to do it again, I get into the guts of the template I want to change and find some code close to where I put to put the adaption, find where the code repeats and then copy the kit-&-kaboodle. Test around with it, until it does what you want it to do, look at the history of other Editors to see what they did. Trust me, with your lengthy history here, you get some massive leeway if you screw up a template...plus you know how to put it back to what it was before you tested on it. Be bold!--Revanche (talk|contribs) 22:47, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Leviathan Question

Hi Rev I wanted to ask you as i'm writing up the Leviathan Warship article. I have dilimea, i want to keep Transport and Heavy Battleship information seperate from one another. This is due to Transport and Battleship specs are rattly differient from one another. The Transports are all being converted in to the Battleship design. Should i just keep them into one article, or seperate them. I normally want keep together, but the Transport hasn't done alot beside move folks across space, Leviathan II battleship is making history in Jihad as thing move along. At the moment, the article is one piece, however I believe and think it deserves seperate article. What should i do? -- Wrangler 22:44, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Armchair answer: discuss as two separate variants on the same article and then include both cats at the bottom. To me, Leviathans are Leviathans...the ship is the same model, but different variant (and missions). However, I do recommend you bring the question up at BattleTechWiki:RequestForComment, so you get more than my opinion on the matter.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 22:50, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Cost for BattleMechs and Combat Vehicles

Hi Rev, is it possible to add a cost section to both BattleMech & Combat Vehicle templates? (Djuice 17:46, 8 January 2010 (UTC))

Absolutely. If you want me to do it, let me know, and I'll get to it shortly. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:51, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
If you could then it's much appreciated. Djuice 18:03, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Roger. Let me finish up what I'm working on, and then I'll get to it. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 18:04, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Okay, Djuice: try the BattleMech one out. I've got it as collapsable, meaning it won't show unless a value is there. Let me know how it works.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 18:48, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I'll give it a try. Thanks, edit: Okay there seems to be a problem, when adding in the cost, it moves the technical specifications bar into a funky position making it look kinda weird. Djuice 18:57, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Go ahead and re-create the problem with a 'Mech article. I'll investigate that one. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:19, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi there, here how it looks. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Akuma <-- weird funkiness thingy with the tabs. Also for the Combat Vehicles the cost tabs doesn't even show up. Djuice 19:23, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
I was quick to find my mistake for the 'Mech infobox. Go ahead and set up a Vee one for me, pls. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:26, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, they are all working fine now. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Zorya <-- See you handy work :p Now I can get to adding some cost for those vehicles/Mechs :D Djuice 19:29, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Excellent. Glad it worked out. Good luck with your endeavor! (As an aside, wikilinks (i.e. Zorya) work on talk pages too, so you don't havw to copy urls over.) --Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:36, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Fuel + Tons/Burn-day For Dropships & Warships

Hi, it's me again :p If you have any free time could you add those two additional boxes to both Dropship & Warship templates :p Take as long as you need, it's not urgent. Thanks Djuice 22:59, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Do Small Craft and ASFs need this too? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 23:33, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
Not both, just the fuel.. Djuice 23:40, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
Try a DropShip now. Let me see how it goes. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 00:00, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, it worked. Achilles <- example. Djuice 00:10, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
I'll try start filling in all other articles with dropships and small craft. They all have been altered now with new template change. -- Wrangler 01:14, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Hmmmph. I didn't expect it to work at first.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:37, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Bad news, Template is wrong due to confusion. I take full responiblity for this mistake for accuring. This what the writer wrote back since i'm not bright enough to clearly write it correctly.
No, it does not. It burns 1.84 tons per day. That means 15 tons of fuel lasts 8.15 days.
  — quote
This need to be changed on all effected template. Sorry for this big error. I tried to fix the template manually, but I was unable to do so. Can the template be changed to Burn Rate/Per Days-- Wrangler 02:00, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I changed it to 'Burn Rate.' Will that work? (Not too current on BattleSpace stuff, even though I was a playtester for Heavy Metal Aero.)--Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:13, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
The Small Craft template still needs to be fixed. Its still missing the Burn Rate. The Tigress article one doesn't have the issue since I originally used the Dropship template for it when i was unable find smallcraft template (don't ask). In response in regards to the changes Battlespace vs current SO rules. The changes are not as visable in the stats we are been putting up in the article per say. Its more rules based things regarding the ships types and game play itself. I can't remember off hand right now what they are. My problem which started whole mess was that i kept miss-reading some things in stats. However, its still little confusing to me how they listed this particular stat for the ships. Example: The Tigress article, where this mess got started from. The Tigress is a small craft which lists 15 tons of fuel in Major Periphery States sourcebook. The Burn Rate is 8.15 days. Meaning the burn rate was done in days, not by ton way i've been mis-reading it. The Aquarius and Lyonesse articles are older than Tigress (despite being printed in TRO:3075.) They forgot to print the burn rate for those ships. The reason why i got confused besides mis-reading Tigress article in the source book was that the Burn Rate name didn't what you use to list how many days of fuel you have. I would thought they would have printed a stat like that as Maximum Fuel Range (Days) = 8.15. I kept miss the conection that rate was MAX Days of fuel verses how much fuel is burned. -- Wrangler 02:50, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
Okay, try that. Let me know if it doesn't work. Off to bed, tho, I think. G'night. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 03:05, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
So the new burn rate figure should be calculated as (Fuel/Burn per day) = No. of days ? Djuice 17:18, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
[hands up] Sorry; don't really know. I was just making the changes to the template, as requested. I didn't and don't have time to figure it out myself, but was just relying on what Wrangler and you requested of me. Please let me know if I need to change anything. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:45, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Question

Hy Revanche I think you see my last addings about Manufacturing Centers...I hope my edditing on this is ok...i fixing in next time...I hope it was a expansion on the wiki site. 03:44, 10 January 2010 (UTC) Doneve 03:45, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

I absolutely think linking manufacturing centers to planets (and vice versa) is helpful. Good job. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 03:49, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Removed Pages

Hy Revanche i see you removed some references on the Abysmal Manufacturing Complex page why? I am not finished with the page. --Doneve 18:10, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Apologies. Please feel free to revert my edits. As part of my spot copyediting, I checked the referenced pages and didn't see anything on those pages regarding Abysmal, and, wanting to keep the integrity of BTW high, I removed them. It sounds like, though, since you are still working on that page, you were just using the entries as templates? Also, if you are going to be working on a page for some length of time, you might find using the {{inuse}} or {{Underconstruction}} tags to be helpful, to protect it from other Editors (but you don't have to). Sorry to disrupt, and feel free to revert my works. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 18:44, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
No problem Revanche. You give me the answer. THX--Doneve 18:58, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

McKinnon's Company?

Hi Rev, i noticed you made a re-direct for future article named McKinnon's Company. Are you talking about McKinnon's Raiders? -- Wrangler 02:35, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Negs. Take a look at the last entry on Cyc's talk page. It was me clearing up any other similar issues with that rarer form of apostrophe. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:50, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Uploading imagine problem

Hi Rev. Something screwing going on with the uploading. I made Jpg file for the Storm Raider BattleMech for a place holder article. I took the imagine from PDF, into a paint file and made it into jpg file. Which turn out fine. However, when i went to upload the picture, the imagine does not appear. I'm not certain what heck I'm doing wrong. I been doing this method three times. Have I rain into a quota problem or something? The file is File:MWDA Storm Raider.jpg. Help? -- Wrangler 22:14, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Wrangler, I see all three images you uploaded. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 22:35, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
I can see them too, I would suspect that you have a browser/cache problem. Try closing down the browser and reloading, that usually fixes it. Djuice 22:43, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Something screwy is going on with my ancient Norton Internet Security program. It doesn't like the file for some reason and won't display it. Maybe because I wrote the name of the file in caps...*grumbles at it.* That my Explorer has a setting that suddenly came on.-- Wrangler 23:07, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Citation style

On Trinity you changed the style of citation from "pg." and "pp." to "p" and "pp". Why? --Scaletail 02:39, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Help:References. I picked up the habit from Frabby (IIRC) about a year and half ago, as proper citing for 'page' and 'multiple pages', when we were discussing the layout of the 'perfect article'. I changed my editing style of that above to the p/pp method at that time. However, reviewing Help:References, I see I was supposed to use periods. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 03:54, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Missing thing from templates

Hi Rev, Sorry about the coming up with this at last minute. I was going over the templates, since i was writing another aerospace article. There appears to be a missing section in the info box. Structural Integrity. None of the template's info boxes have them listed. Once again, since i am unable to do infobox code. Is possible these can be added to WarShip, DropShip, SmallCraft and Aerospace fighter templates when you get a chance? Thanks! -- Wrangler 16:30, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Sure. Just tell me what you want it to say, both in the template and in the data. For example, do you want the template to show in the 'Structural Integrity' and the data to only show a number? Sorry if I'm not clear right now; I think I have what you had last week. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:08, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Recap, I just need a line in the Infobox for Structural Integrity. It simple listing, just number. It basic tells the player how internal hit points the ship has before its utterly destroyed. All Aerospace units as far I know have them. -- Wrangler 20:01, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Got it. Might be done tonight. I'll let you know when done. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 20:27, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Okay, made the change to Template:InfoBoxASF‎. Don't have the brain power to do it to the 9+ other templates tonight. Test this one out and let me know if anything is wrong. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:23, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Wrangler, what about conventional fighters templates. Do they need structural integrity? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:13, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Quick Question: I may have to improvise this if there isn't one. Do we have Space Station template? I've looking to do article for the station from the Handbook: Major Periphery States. I went to see if there was template for them, so i check Technical Readout: 3057 Revised. None of the space stations article exist. Is it going major uh-oh to put one together from scratch? -- Wrangler 01:10, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
No, it really won't. But, what would be helpful (save me time and let me do it before this weekend) is if you tell what you want in the template, in bullet form, like this:
  • Item 1
  • Item 2
  • Item 3
  • etc.

Get that for me and I'll probably be able to knock it out tomorrow sometime. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 01:26, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

I'm idot. I found a space station template. No articles been produced by it. However it IS missing some stuff. This my recommended suggestion to replace the Old Template of CreatStationArticle.

That'll be very helpful. I'll knock out the addition of SI to the other templates first and then will work on building this one. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 12:36, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi Rev, do you know when you think we'll get that upgrade template for the Space Stations -- Wrangler 15:22, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
So sorry. It did slip from my radar. Its back on again. Maybe today? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:17, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Planetary Data

Hy Revanche, i have a question about an pdf download http://www.classicbattletech.com/downloads/DA_Republic_Worlds.pdf or the Touring the Stars pdf. on the classibattletech site. Can i use the datas from the pdf on the wiki, please response me. Doneve 00:49, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes, you may, as they are declared official and canon. Please reference them, also, when you do. Thanks for asking, Doneve. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:30, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Hy, i have one question more, can I categorize the Planets by Prefecture (one example planet: Alcor) - Category:Planets|Prefecture VIII with reference. THX Doneve 10:46, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Sorry Jump in. Doneve, please make sure when you add this data from the Republic Worlds, that you write without making appear the current year 3132. I've seen some of your updates. You list "Current" governor of the planet. I strongly believe it shouldn't be written like that. -- Wrangler 12:04, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Hy Wrangler, support is always helpfull for me, i work on my englisch ;), i write to you wenn i startet, but I have a lot to do about the manufacturing centers. Greeting Doneve 12:10, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

  • Two things: 1) yes, you can definitely add in additional categories that break down the RotS by prefecture. That is a logical development.
  • 2) As a fellow Editor (three involved here), I'm not sure I agree with Wrangler about the year: I think it should definitely be shown, so that when people read 'current governor', they understand current as of 3132. In fact, any reference to people in templates about a company, planet, etc, probably should have the year that position was held by him in parenthsis, so that readers know when this is true. Ex: Current Governor: Billy Ray Cyrus (3132). That's my opinion. Consensus will bear out how we do it.
  • You didn't ask, but I've always worked at Sarna from the perspective we're reporting from the far future (maybe, say, the year 5000), so that some facts are currently lost to us, but all of our readers are reading about Sarna for the history of the Inner Sphere (rather than the current news). That's not held by everybody, so how we represent different points in history remains up in the air (at least for the next 15 or so Real Life years, until we catch up with the Dark Age). --Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:14, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi Rev, Doneve; I was suggesting that it should be written in prospect that year 3132 wasn't currentl year. I though it be written as listing. listing for leaders for said planet. *Lord Buckly (2521) *Lord Governor Kelswa-Steiner (3130) etc. I was concern that Don may litterly translate info word for word from original information which was written not in a future view but view that 3132 was current year. -- Wrangler 16:15, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Got it. It wasn't clear to me in your previous write-up (as an English reader), and since it is his 2nd language, had to be less so for him. Right? I dunno! Maybe your disjointed sentences actually work better for him. But, yeah...it'll be interesting to see how it comes out: does listed information get repeated/updated in sections by year, or will it be listed once, with acknowledged changes shown for the same field? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:39, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Characters from MW4: Vengenance

Hi Rev, I'm little rusty on the what citation goes on characters who come from the semi-canon sources. A no-name user has enter some MW4: Vengenance characters to Sarna. -- Wrangler 12:07, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

I've added the ApocryphalArticle templates for the articles that are effected. Question: Should these character, with the Apocrypha template in them be listed in any of the fully-canon categories, like Characters of House Steiner, etc? -- Wrangler 12:30, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
I would say no, not if they're completely apocryphal. However, it is possible that characters that appeared in an apocryphal source also appeared in some canonical source. In the case of the characters from MW4, I suggest you check all books covering Carver V to see if any of the folks from the game were mentioned; they're all important people after all. And if a character as such is canonical then it goes into the categories. In that case, you'd have to be careful to make it clear in the article what parts are apocryphal. Frabby 13:25, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
What Frabby says. When I first read your request, I was going to point you to him, since his interests deal with the subject of apocrypha much more. If/when you do find important characters that exist outside of MW4: Vengenance, my concept of identifying the apocryphal is to have either a MW4: Vengenance or Apocrypha sub-section at the end of the character history. That section should include years, so that readers can easily match the information with canon material, if they so desire. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:06, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
This going be tough. MW4 games re-wrote some fiction. The character MAy have appeared in normal fiction, such Youngblood from Crescent Hawk games, but MW4...i don't know if there any books that covers what happened on Carver V aka Liberty. Other than name change...mentions of the Fire Ant in Technical Readout: 3050 Upgrade. I don't know of any source book during that time that covers it. I believe its possible the characters who've been given a reference to the FedCom Civil War source book have mentions in it. I don't have a searchable source of information at the moment. So i will take me while to do this. As for the character problem. I think we should create a Apocrayha Characters category for those whom COMPLETELy have non mention in regular canon sources. -- Wrangler 16:10, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Sure. My philosophy is every article should belong to some category, to help increase the interconnectedness of the wiki. Since purely apocryphal characters should not appear in the primary character categories, having a mother category for them would be the answer. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:42, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

User Welcome Problem

Hy, Revanche, i become some problems wen I was looged out, and lurging on the wiki, I become allways, Hello Welcome on the...you know what i mean. Doneve 21:54, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

What I'm hearing is you may not have cookies authorized, and so -sometimes- forget to log in to the site when you visit. I don't bother to check IP addresses, so I assume every new IP to the site is a new user. Don't worry about those. Its not a problem for me to do them (Ebakunin made it easy for me) and this way I know every new person gets the welcome message. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 21:59, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Okidoki I know what you mean.THX Doneve 22:08, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

XY Coordinates

Hy again, can you tell me, where are the XY- coordinates com, or what are programm or other thinks you use. Doneve 00:19, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Some people like to use [1], which isn't official. I use the old House Books for cited coords, which listed the coords for each planet in that realm (but they weren't released in the censored pdf versions).--Revanche (talk|contribs) 00:23, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Ok, I come in next time with a little update on this spar or spart ;)...Thanx Doneve 00:31, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Hy Revanche i stop my y: coordinates project. Frabby talk to me, it is a meta-source, and in the Inner Sphere Atlas are to many misstakes, to use it as reference. I dont have the original House Books only as pdf, and there the coordinates not listed. I am a little bit sadly, but it is ok, i dont want to put fals informations in the great wiki. Or its a compromiss, i finished the y: coordinates, but i dont use the Inner Sphere Atlas as referenc.GreetingsDoneve 15:31, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
By all means, please continue! I didn't mean to stop you. Just don't quote the IS Atlas as a reference anymore; like Revanche already said above, it's not an official source. The Y coords on this wiki are dead wrong anyways while most stuff from the Atlas is correct. If you can, cite the correct sources but if you only have the Atlas, well don't give a reference then. Frabby 17:01, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
Ok, i start again, i use not IS Atlas as references :).THXDoneve 17:48, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Doneve

Dear Revanche, I feel that Doneve really deserves some special merit/award for his contributions to planetary information. He is citing Chris Wheeler's IS Atlas to replace the erroneous Y-coordinates with the actual values, and as Chris Wheeler is (himself) cited as a BattleTech fact-checker in regards to timelines and planetary information, the source is pretty sound. This task has been on the "to-do list" for planetary data for some time, and requires ~2000 separate edits for the Inner Sphere alone. It is quite a task, and I feel he deserves recognition.--S.gage 23:35, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

I agree with you. Doneve's additions have been important in adding (the industrial articles) and correcting material (planetary data). There are two options: Editor & Admin awards. Its my goal to introduce a new ribbon every month, and right now Editor Awards are the most populated. Unless you want to wait until the appropriate Admin award is available and nominate him for one of those, might I suggest you award him one of the Editor Awards? An All Purpose Award would be my suggestion. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:22, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Founders Consistent Service Award

Dan, I've added a Founders Consistent Service Award to your board. You are a guiding light for the wiki, and have been an instrumental part in it growing to where it is today. Thanks for all of the coordination and organizing you do with projects, other admins and editors. Your work really shines through. Nicjansma 06:26, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, Nic. It is a pleasure to work here. I think I can say each of us feels like we are genuinely helping the BattleTech community grow with our efforts here. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 02:00, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Mercenary Command template problems

Hi Rev, sorry to bother you with this issue. The Template Help:CreateMercenaryUnitArticle is terribly out date and partically broken. The template is missing unitname line it it, which causes the infobox to have the mercanry's name instead of the actual unit name. Also the template has wrong article category is incorrect it. Its has main category of (Mercenaries) vers of Mercenary Commands. It also lacking line for < References / >. (I'm spacing it so you don't have coding issue here :P) Is it possible to replace this with newer one? I've been bandaiding mercenary unit articles that have been popping up. However, it getting out of control. Can you fix this or assign someone who able to re-do templates? Thank you. -- Wrangler 19:49, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

  • Forgot to mention. Do you need me to make new template what the should like? I would think you were better at that than i am, i'm just noticing problems cropping up. Also, who should I talk to about Neuling. He rapidly added whole slew (12) of articles to Sarna, but only merc units with just listings of what mercenary unit has for components. no history or anything much else. I'm not great talking to people, do you know whom be best ask him/her about adding content to her/his articles? I've fixed one until i noticed how many he/her was adding. -- Wrangler 19:55, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I'll take a look at the template tomorrow (Valentines' Day is today for my wife and me). Feel free to provide some suggestioons, but I'm sure you're right that it is out of date.
As for Neuling, I see he is providing solid facts and even references. No one is required to provide a complete article (which you often come very close to doing). As long as they provide facts about the unit and not just an empty article, then he is helping. Some of us enjoy writing prose, while others enjoy just adding data. All-together, we'll get to better articles. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:20, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
Hello Rev. I and Neuling have spoken briefly regarding the Hampton's Hessens main article. I by accidently expanded the article with alot source information. He wasn't too happy about my revamping his article. I apologize to him regarding that. He said if i had more resources to contribute, i could expand what he added. However, I'm going be sorely repressed from trying fix alot other problems of the article that it could look like i'm revamping it again. I am trying be respective his work, though the alot semi-empty merc article he did. Do you have recommendation what I should do. I'm concerned if I'm too bold i'm going upset him. -- Wrangler 17:10, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
I have two points of view on this that /may/ appear to be counter-productive, but really aren't. First is that no one owns an article, even one they created. Each article is presumed to be an act of collaboration and if an Editor cannot work in that environment, then a public wiki is not really where they need to be. (Of course, the extension of that is they are free to work on their own project - such as Roosterboy has done with his ComStar Historical Archives - but without the promise of the breadth of scope our project has.)
The other point is that established Editors, such as you and I, have a responsibility to cultivate and grow other, newer Editors...the farm team, so-to-speak. It behooves us to encourage their growth, efforts and creativity as much as possible, and to refrain from "biting the newcomer" (to borrow from Wikipedia) as much as possible.
You want to improve upon his articles, but at the same time, you don't want to scare him off. Both are commendable goals. One way to cultivate him is to make minor copyedits. Granted, not necessarily your strong suit, but since he is not a native English speaker, there are plenty of ways you can instruct him on how we do things thru demonstration of minor improvements of his articles. My suggestion is to do just that. Show him how to properly format an article, add citations, use italics and wikilinks, etc. Follow him somewhat (much as I did with you, when you first started posting here), and write encouraging notes explaining the changes you made, by using the history links. If you see an article YOU want to drastically improve...write a note to yourself on your page and then...wait. Give the article some time to sit, so he can finish it at his own pace. You can improve it enough to save it from deletion (if it is a target for deletion), but let it be. Give it three weeks, a month, whatever. And then, come back and improve it. If he stops posting altogether for a length of time, you can come in earlier. If he continues posting, but has moved on from your target article(s), then you can come in, make your additions and by then, he should feel much more comfortable with the collaboration process.
Does that help? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 01:51, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

So you are suggesting an admin category (such as Category: Missing Images) be added to articles that are missing images? Makes sense to me. Feel free to make it happen. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:48, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
