System Information

The Arcadia system was the location of at least one habitable world and as of 3145 was located in the Wolf Empire.[1][2]

System Description[edit]

Arcadia is located near the Gienah and Launam systems.[3]

System History[edit]

Originally colonized by the Terran Alliance during the First Exodus from Terra,[4] the Arcadia system was depopulated or abandoned during the Age of War.[5][6] Arcadia was recolonized by the Lyran Commonwealth during the Reunification War.[7]

Planetary History[edit]

Star League Era[edit]

The world of Arcadia was was a casualty of the Age of War and recolonized during the Star League era.[32] During the final years of the Star League, Arcadia was the host of an Star League Defense Force garrison. Unfortunately, it also was the site of an incident where a Major of the 236th Mechanized Infantry Division went on a killing spree after not receiving a toy in a meal he ordered. The horrendous act was made worse by several members of the Major's battalion assisting in the horrendous incident. This caused serious political repercussions between the SLDF and the Lyran Commonwealth.[33]

Civil War Era[edit]

Arcadia was the site of a 3063 ambush set for Kristen's Krushers as they attempted to flee Alliance space. The unit was nearly destroyed but an unauthorized Free Worlds League rescue force not only preserved the unit, but maintained control of the world as a "protectorate" for the duration of the FedCom Civil War. On 11 April 3067, the League ceded the world back to the Alliance.[34][22]

Jihad[edit]

Following the invasion of the Free Worlds League by the Skye and Bolan Provinces of the Lyran Alliance in what was termed Operation ÜBERSCHATTEN, Marshall Jeremy Brett took command of the local Free Worlds League Military and launched a counteroffensive under the name Operation BROKEN FIST.[25]

During the Free Worlds League's attack on Arcadia in September 3068, a lance from the mercenary unit Donovan's Dark Devils engaged a lance of 'Mechs from the planetary militia near Summerville.[35]

Meanwhile the rest of the mercenary attacked the maglev train carrying the militia's dependents to the safety of Summerville's shelters and destroyed the train during the fighting. Most observers believe this was done intentionally.[35]

The final assault against the Militia was a disaster for the mercenaries. They found unbridled fury and the Militia tore through them. Only the unit's DropShip was able to retreat, with Captain Donovan killed during the battle.[36]

But as Kirkpatrick's Invaders withdrew, they were left in an untenable position and they were unable to stand against the remaining regular Marik forces and thus surrendered.[36]

BROKEN FIST went beyond simply attempting to recapture worlds that the Lyrans had seized, striking into Lyran space at numerous worlds. Arcadia was one of the worlds hit and was overrun by the League forces on 10 September 3068.[25]

Dark Age[edit]

In December 3140, a portion of Clan Wolf's Gamma Galaxy attacked Arcadia. Attempting to take DeSota City, they faced an auxiliary mercenary force headed by Annie's Avengers. Gamma Galaxy could not break the defenses before First Steiner Strikers backup arrived—the auxiliary was reduced to a third of its size, but it held. Avengers CO Ann-Marie Dalmas's performance in battle, including her seventeen 'Mech and vehicle kills, earned her celebrity status across the Lyran Commonwealth.[31]

The database of the (apocryphal) 1989 video game MechWarrior, set around the year 3025, gives a population of 1.323 billion for Arcadia and describes the environment as "tropical" (out of only three impressions of planetary environments given in the game, these being "desert," "ice," and "tropical"). The description one-liner reads "Strong in agriculture and manufacturing."
