Like most Clans pre-REVIVAL, there was little use for supra-Galaxy naval formations for Clan Jade Falcon. Bandit hunting was the most any vessel could expect regularly, with inter-Clan naval vessels rare or ended before any major damage could be inflicted. The return to the Inner Sphere changed the Jade Falcon touman dramatically. All WarShips and transports in Occupation Zone reported to Star Admiral Vishu Folkner, a command position second only to the Khans.[1] In addition, two Naval Stars were in use at the time of REVIVAL:
- Emerald Talon Naval Assault Star, an independent unit in existence in the Homeworlds and expected to see great honor in restoring the Star League. Instead used as transports and escort for Clusters when the Inner Sphere was found to lack Warships. Returned to the Homeworlds following the battles at Twycross and bluff at Zoetermeer[2], and became part of Turkina’s Talon’s, the Homeworld defense group.[3]
- Falcon Stoop Naval Attack Star, newly raised to protect deep Periphery convoys, with a station at Cambridge Perimeter Defense Station (Orbital Fleet Base).
The years after the Wars of Reaving, the Jihad, and the relocation of the Clan to the Inner Sphere put a strain on the WarShip fleet. The Butler naval yard was unable to perform more than basic maintenance and civilian vessels were a priority to rebuild.[4]
The rise of Malvina Hazen and the Mongol Doctrine among the Jade Falcons saw in increased willingness to use the WarShips still available to her. The Falcons did not move to a Pocket Warship or Assault DropShip heavy force, as did so many other Clans in the Republic years. .[4] While this was often an advantage against the Lyran Commonwealth, who lacked sufficient aerospace fighters to counter the large Warships that are providing surface artillery support, any force able to make space-bound interceptions can worry the escort-weak convoys. [5]
