Twycross III is a weather-wild desert planet that orbits a large and hot sun, where cataclysmic events and powerful wind storms are common, and its people are used to this. Due to these storms and events the population placed their cities and towns underground or made surface structures squat and flat. Twycross has a massive and continuous storm known as the Diabolis, which spawns never-ending destructive weather.[1][28]

In the outer reaches of the Twycross system lies the world known as Jonah’s Reach. This uninhabitable planet became the Inner Sphere's major source of HarJel when Clan Diamond Shark acquired the system.[2][37]

Planetary History[edit]

Star League[edit]

Twycross was settled during the height of the Star League era.[8][5]

During the last years of the Star League, Twycross supported a garrison of Star League Defense Forces.[38]

Late Succession Wars[edit]

By 3025, Twycross had become part of the Lyran Commonwealth's Tamar Pact, but it had a low population and was the most undeveloped world within the province. Due to the nature of the planet, its government had become politically sly and subtle in how it conducted business. The justice inflicted on its people was rough even for a world living on the edge of civilization.[1]

Operation REVIVAL[edit]

First Battle of Twycross[edit]

In June of 3050, Clan Jade Falcon invaded Twycross as a part of the Clan Invasion's Second Wave of attacks. The planet's defenders, the Twycross TMM, faced off against the Jade Falcon Guards. The militia unit put up a fanatical struggle against the Clan invaders but after three weeks of fighting, the survivors of the Twycross TMM withdrew from the planet. However, though losing the planet, they brought intelligence that aided the FedCom High Command in developing a strategy to overcome the Clans.[22] It was here the First Somerset Strikers stole equipment from Jade Falcon to help close the Inner Sphere's technological disadvantage from the Clans.

Second Battle of Twycross[edit]

In September 3050, during the Fourth Wave of the invasion, a FedCom Task Force of several frontline combat units was deployed to Twycross. The task force consisted of Tenth Lyran Guards, Ninth FedCom RCT, and first two battalions of the Kell Hounds. The Jade Falcon defenders only consisted of the Jade Falcon Guards and elements of the Jade Falcon Eyrie, which engaged the FedCom forces on the Plain of Curtains and in the Great Gash canyon region. The battle turned in favor of the FedCom forces when Clan forces were lured into the Gash where Kai Allard-Liao detonated powerful explosives planted in the walls of the Gash, resulting in the Jade Falcon Guards' destruction through being buried under tons of rock and rubble. The destruction and defeat of the Guards triggered the resignation of the Falcon's Khan, Timur Malthus.[39]

Third Battle of Twycross[edit]

Control of the planet was short-lived, as in November 3051, Gamma Galaxy of the Steel Vipers used the Diabolis Sandstorms against the defending Tenth Lyran and Ninth Federated Commonwealth RCTs. The 423rd and 428th Assault Clusters met the Tenth Lyran on the Plain of Curtains while the Ninety-fourth Battle Cluster drove the Ninth FC from their defensive positions in Schreuder Heights back to the spaceport at Camora. A few hours later, the FedCom forces lifted off planet.

Refusal War[edit]

In November 3057, Clan Wolf's Khan Natasha Kerensky led Clan Wolf forces to Twycross where they battled with the Falcon Guard as part of a massive Trial of Refusal. In the ensuing Combat Trial, Khan Kerensky initiated personal zellbrigen with Falcon Guard MechWarrior Joanna; the two battled in the Great Gash canyon, where the battle for Twycross was won for the Falcons when Joanna felled Kerensky in a last-ditch act of defiance.[40][2]

Falcon Incursion and Diamond Shark Conquest[edit]

In 3064, the Jade Falcon Occupation Zone became the target of Operation AUDACITY, the Lyran Alliance counteroffensive against the Jade Falcon Incursion. In Late October to early November, a Lyran Alliance task force led by General Archer Christifori challenged the garrison commander, Star Colonel Ravill Pryde, to a Trial of Possession for control of Twycross. On the 24th of November Archer's Avengers were in the process of landing when Ravill Pryde's Timber Wolf fired on the incoming DropShips. Seen as a breach of zellbrigen, the Avengers attacked the Jade Falcon Guards with full force, winning the ensuing battle. Captured and briefly made a bondsman, Diana Pryde was used to relay a message to Khan Marthe Pryde to end her conflict in Lyran space.[41]

The Avengers detached their armor assets and other miscellaneous forces to garrison Twycross, while the Falcons resolved to never return to Twycross. However, in April 3065, Clan Diamond Shark issued a batchall for control of the planet. After five days of fighting the garrison force was dispatched and Twycross became a possession of Clan Diamond Shark. The Sharks had originally wanted the planet for its disabled BattleMech factory, but later scouts from the Clan discovered that a nearby orbiting planetoid in the system - Jonah's Reach - possessed a large deposit of HarJel.[42][43][44]

Jihad Era[edit]

By 3077, Twycross's old Trellshire Heavy Industries facility had been restored and reconfigured to produce Diamond Shark designs for sale and Twycross had become the most prized Diamond Shark possession in the Inner Sphere. The Clan's flagship, the Nightlord-class battleship DCS Terror of the Deep, and a Galaxy of troops had been assigned permanently to defend Twycross and the HarJel mining complex on Jonah's Reach.[2]

During the Bloody Tricentennial attacks, the Trellshire Heavy Industries plant was destroyed in a nuclear explosion intended to both destroy the factory and the garrisoning Diamond Shark forces from Gamma Galaxy, who had been lured to the plant by a series of earlier explosions.[45] The plant was initially described as having been heavily damaged.[46]

Dark Age Era[edit]

Twycross' HPG was one of those few surviving to the Blackout and had a constant, though limited, Jade Falcon presence that was probably due to that.[47]

ilClan Era[edit]

After Falcon Khan Malvina Hazen took all the Falcon assets to participate in the Battle of Terra, chaos erupted in the Falcon Occupation Zone, which become the Hinterlands. The Falcon Merchant Factor, Marena, founded a new mercantile state, the Alyina Mercantile League, and Twycross became its second planet after Alyina. The local Merchant Factor, Geran, who had assumed control of all Jade Falcon enclaves on the planet, swiftly agreed to administer the planet in her name. Marena also quickly reached an agreement with the Sea Foxes about the system.[48]

Military Deployment[edit]

Geography[edit]

Twycross has three continents named Twycross North, Twycross South, and Big Island.[3]
