Planetary Information

El Giza is a world of purple Fronds[1] instead of conventional trees or grasses. The Heather as its known by locals grows up to three to four meters tall. The inhabitants communities are almost hidden by the Heather at the bottom of valleys that dot the landscape. The primary industry on El Giza is agriculture, with local buildings being constructed of scrap metal since there are no trees.[40]

Planetary History

El Giza was one of some fifty-one heavily contested worlds to have been placed under Terran Hegemony authority as a jointly-administered world during the Age of War or Star League era.[41] During the time of the 1st Star League El Giza was the home of a major trading nexus and Star League base on the border of the Free Worlds League and Capellan Confederation. El Giza was a regional communications center and the home of a robust entertainment industry with a highly academic culture; scholars traveling from throughout the rimward half of the Inner Sphere to attend its schools.[42] During the First Succession War El Giza once more became a flashpoint between the Free Worlds League and Capellan Confederation.[41] After a dozen violent takeovers El Giza was left devastated. In contrast with the conflict of the Succession Wars, El Giza was left unscathed after the Jihad.[42]

In 3082 El Giza was defended the Fourth Andurien Cavalry as a part of the defense pact between the Mosiro Archipelago and the Duchy of Andurien; late in that year, a Capellan Confederation BattleMech company arrived on world as part of an effort by the Confederation to wedge a new border between the Confederation, the Duchy of Andurien and the nearby Oriente Protectorate. The Andurien Cavalry tracked the Capellan forces and dispatched a lance of new Aeron Strike VTOLs to intercept the Capellan troops as they attempted to meet up with their DropShip. The Andurien forces ambushed the CCAF company, dropping three 'Mechs quickly and then harassing the remaining 'Mechs until all had been destroyed before they could rendevouz with their waiting transport.[3]

By the 3130s the Duchy of Andurien considered the world marginally strategically valuable due to its proximity to that era's major trading hub of Mosiro. By 3137 El Giza had become the home of the Fourth Andurien Cavalry until the Andurien War with Oriente, during which the planet was taken by the Covenant Worlds 1st Expeditionary Force, becoming part of the Oriente Protectorate.[citation needed]
