Description

The Notos was a advanced Heavy Class hybrid Omni Quad BattleMech / Combat Vehicle known as a QuadVee. Named for the Greek Goddess of the south wind, the Notos is a more refined QuadVee design in comparison to it's earlier predecessors. Retaining the best qualities of the previous models, the Notos has been built to field a wide range of different weapon and equipment configurations, while taking advantage gained by having wheels in place of tank treads.

This additional speed not normally seen in it's weight class, would help the unit gain some acceptance among the Hell's Horses highly mobile Cavalry and Ranger Cluster formations.[1]

Weapons and Equipment

Designed as OmniMech, the Notos can be reconfigured with 15 tons of equipment in omnipods. While it has modest 12.5 tons of armor protection from enemy fire, it's true innovation comes with it's transformation into a combat vehicle. Powered by a 300-Rated Extra-Light Fusion Engine, the Notos can travel up to 90 kph hour, while in Mech mode it can move 80 kph. Giving it capacity to keep pace with fast combat formations. With additional to it's wheels on normal surfaces, it can move slightly fast on paved road surfaces, while it's earlier track models are not as quick.

Taking advantage of it's 4-ton dual cockpit with it's dedicated driver/gunner arrangement, the Notos Prime Configuration can concentrate it's weapon payload of five Medium Pulse Lasers in any direction at an enemy with additional help of a Targeting Computer. The Prime Configuration also features a Supercharger, boosting the Notos's Quad Mech speed up to 100 kph.[1]

Alternate Configurations

  • Alt. Config. B
Long-range fire support configuration, the B armed with a pair of 15-tubed LRM launchers with four tons of ammunition split between two side torsos. A pair of ER Medium Lasers are mounted central torso to round the 'Mech weaponry. BV(2.0)=1,877[1][4]
  • Alt. Config. D
Configured for long-range combat and as a sniper, this configuration mounts pair of Extended Range Large Lasers in either side of it's turret like torso. A Targeting Computer and three additional Laser Heat Sinks are added as well. BV(2.0)=1,865[1][6]

Notes

  • In the Alpha Strike Rules set for BattleTech, the Notos Prime has been given the Point Value of 38, with Specials including; CASE, ENE, Omni, QV, and Turret (5/5/-).[7]
  • The name "Notos" is one variation of the name of the South Wind Greek Goddess, the Goddess is also known as Libonotus.
