Davion Assault Guards
Hello Mbear, question for you about the naming standard on Sarna for pages of characters with the same name.  Taking for example Thaddeus Marik which will bring you to the disambiguation for three different Thaddeus'.  I than go to Christopher Marik which brings you to two different pages, either Christopher Marik (24th c.) or Christopher Marik (32nd c.).  Question is, I need to create a page for Kenyon Marik of the Dark Age instead of Kenyon Marik the Captain-General.  So which naming method should be used to differentiate these two characters?  DerangedShadow (talk) 17:37, 13 January 2014 (PST)

Hey Mbear, noticed somebody edited your Davion Assault Guards page, I am going to assume that the user thought it was the "main article" as it where. Since you have not touched the article since 2013 do you think we could possibly retire it to avoid confusion? Cheers --Dmon (talk) 13:01, 4 February 2016 (PST)

Hey Mbear, I am beginning to become extremely concerned about Neuling again. I have just noticed that the DCMS page has pretty much been totally dismantled and has been like that for over a week. I am honestly not sure if it is evolution or outright destruction a lot of the work. Hy BM. A new idea by myself, i want to create a template like the Rules section [div class="gamerules"] but in red on some pages for the notes section to highlight some errata or inconsistence thinks there descriped in the notes section and so on, and highlighte some answered questions from the BT forum, is this a good idea, i want to involve Mbear to this, any thoughts.--Doneve (talk) 17:29, 23 March 2014 (PDT)

Hi, i see you removed the update needed tags, i dont want to add tags for Field Manual: 3145 the pages need to update by this source, can you do this when you found time, cheers.--Doneve (talk) 07:11, 7 June 2016 (PDT)
:Would you want the box to highlight canon inconsistencies where we've got two canon sources that contradict each other, or to highlight comments and rulings from TPTB, or both? I think it's a good idea, but red is associated with warnings - it's only really used on here for warning people who're breaking rules and for marking out fanon entries - so I'd be tempted to make it a different color. I don't know much about the div class templates like the gamerules one, and I've never tried making one - my first thought is, would it be something that we could do using tags like those Frabby made up to mark Apocryphal detail within an article? I know that I like to include answers and comments from TPTB in the article itself in the notes page, whereas Frabby prefers to put the detail in the talk page, so there might be a difference of opinion over whether the template is needed or not. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:45, 24 March 2014 (PDT)

::Adding a class or section like that is possible, but we need to talk to NicJ to make that happen. BrokenMnemonic is right, red we usually use for CRITICAL or ERROR conditions so we don't want to use that. I'd look at Frabby's Apocryphal stuff as a model for this.

::I'm not clear on what you're trying to achieve with this project though. Can you provide an example? Thanks!--Mbear(talk) 07:38, 24 March 2014 (PDT)

:::Ok, at first i want to highlight the answered questions from the BT forum BM has added to so many diffrent articles in the note section, as example look here Colonial Tractors, you and BM are right the color red is not ok, what options have we? I think this is enough at this time.--Doneve (talk) 08:00, 24 March 2014 (PDT)

:::Don't look now, but you're about to break through 1,050 updates needed. That'll be an eighth of the way through. ==Mechwarrior 1==

Hello. As of now, the site has a number of download links for all Mechwarrior games on various platforms and so on. I'd like to ask you guys to consider giving a link to the Sharp X68000 and PC-9801 versions of Mechwarrior 1. They're abandonware and it's quite hard to track the ROMs down nowadays. It could very well become impossible in the not so distant future which would be a shame as they've made a bigger mark on Battletech than any version of MW2, MW3 or MC could ever dream of. Plus, the PC-98 version of the game is practically the only one playable by today's standards which is quite an issue when it comes to people trying out MW1.

As of now, there's functional links to download floppy images for the games:

Star League commands order
 +

 +
Hi Mbear,
 +

 +
I've seen that the Star League commands order is different from the rest. Units assigned in sub-level commands do appear also in the root (something that does not happen in other Military Commands Categories. Am I right if I consider this Category incorrectly done?
 +

 +
I also think there are categories missing that should help reorganize this a bit better? The level of sub commands can be huge, and I do not even know which is the best way to order them.
 +

 +
I tried to make this a general query, but have no idea on how to do it.--Pserratv (talk) 10:31, 18 July 2019 (EDT)
 +

 +
:I wouldn't say "incorrectly done" exactly, but I see your point. I think what happened was the original SLDF commands category was created before FM:SLDF and other Star League era sourcebooks were published. Going by the limited information available in The Star League, this original category was probably enough.
 +

 +
:Now that we have more info, you're probably right about a reorganization. By "sub commands" I assume you're talking about something like a category for units that are part of 1st Army (Star League), then a category for I Corps (Star League)'s constituent commands, etc. I see no problem with that. (In fact I think we started a category for Army and Corps level organizations: (:Category:Star League Defense Force Commands - Army and :Category:Star League Defense Force Corps) but frankly my job picked up and I haven't had a lot of time to keep working on Sarna.)
 +

 +
:I also just created a new category as an example: :Category:Star League Defense Force Auxiliary Corps which lists the various Auxiliary Corps used in the Reunification War.
 +

 +
:However, I wouldn't recommend removing any existing specialist categories, like :Category:Star League Defense Force Commands - Infantry Division.
 +

 +
:Does that help at all or have I just confused the issue even more?--Mbear(talk) 09:06, 19 July 2019 (EDT)

 +
:::my problem with including units in say 1st Army is that if a casual user does not know it is part of 1st Army we have just made finding it exponentially harder not easier. 1st Sword of Light will always be easy to find because it shares the name of the next command level up.--Dmon (talk) 11:54, 19 July 2019 (EDT)

:::::If we do this, and I accept any ruling and I understand also why you are worried, we need to do first something on the commands now in General as... well, otherwise they'll be flooded and never be seen again. Do you know how the system maps are generated? All those images don't have a category and this makes the Uncategorized files not very useful as from the first 1000 thousand maybe 95% images as these ones. And I do not want to put them in a category as this might affect the "program" that generates them. Do you know who can help? LX Corps[edit]

Hi, i removed the image it is wrong, i uploade the correct.--Doneve (talk) 11:42, 26 January 2016 (PST)

Davion Assault Guards[edit]

Hey Mbear, noticed somebody edited your Davion Assault Guards page, I am going to assume that the user thought it was the "main article" as it where. Since you have not touched the article since 2013 do you think we could possibly retire it to avoid confusion? Cheers --Dmon (talk) 13:01, 4 February 2016 (PST)

Jade Falcon units[edit]

Mbear - yeah, i get the issue. The units in question fought the Kell Hounds, resulting in the death of Daniel Allard. Unfortunately, they weren't mentioned by name. Nevertheless, other sources clear state their presence. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 17:40, 2 June 2016 (PDT)

Victroy Ranger units[edit]

Hi, i see you removed the update needed tags, i dont want to add tags for Field Manual: 3145 the pages need to update by this source, can you do this when you found time, cheers.--Doneve (talk) 07:11, 7 June 2016 (PDT)

SLDF Units[edit]

Hi, started to add some updates to the SLDF units, but I see it is one of your pet projects. I don't want to step on anyone's toes, but if you need any help just let me know. Dark Jaguar (talk) 08:17, 13 June 2016 (PDT)

St. Ives Sentinels[edit]

Hello. The Armored Infantry and Mounted Fusiliers are the 1st and 2nd St. Ives Sentinels. You listed them as dead and created new pages for the 1st and 2nd. What do you want me to do about them? Henryjones000 (talk) 12:44, 13 April 2017 (EDT)

Spammers[edit]

I saw your efforts to delete all the spambots earlier, just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work as an admin. It's really appreciated, you deserve this award. Vandal Cop Award, 3rd ribbon Dark Jaguar (talk) 17:00, 9 May 2017 (EDT)

In the same vein, thank you for standing in the trenches and fighting off the soulless spambots with me and BrokenMnemonic. Have another Vandal Cop award on me. (4th ribbon, right?) Frabby (talk) 03:21, 13 July 2017 (EDT)

Don't admin tired (or angry)[edit]

I was going thru the motions of dealing with the spambot when I saw you had already done some deletions. I blocked, but wondered if you had merged it with anonymous; when I saw you hadn't I went to do so, but because I was thinking of you, I copied your name into the merge command. Thank Nic you were in the protected group! As the protected group warning popped up, I was still in disblief: "No! Did I just delete Mbear?!" --Revanche (talk|contribs) 10:04, 2 October 2017 (EDT)

sigh I knew it. Everyone IS out to get me. ;)--Mbear(talk) 06:56, 3 October 2017 (EDT)

BattleCorp's Battletech style guide[edit]

Mechwarrior 1[edit]

X68000 floppies - http://78.213.180.135:5080/mame/index.php?name=btech/x68k_flop (as btech.zip in the upper right corner)
PC-9801 floppies - https://mega.nz/#F!F59WkSqQ!quGKSFIswBgv0rxAAaF8Pg!ctEDjaKL (Under は, find 【PC98】バトルテック.rar) Adridos (talk) 20:25, 14 February 2018 (EST)

The right person to ask about this would be our site bureaucrat User:Nicjansma. Nobody else can add stuff to the download section (which has been in need of a workover for a decade now anyways). :) I've dropped a note in Nic's talk page to perhaps look into this. Frabby (talk) 05:38, 15 February 2018 (EST)

WIP tag[edit]

Morning, Mbear. I just stumbled across your question regarding pages under construction ("Is there a way to list all pages with the underconstruction tag on them?" - on your profile page). I just happened to do exactly that a few days back. This can also be found on the To Do List (on the Sidebar).--Revanche (talk|contribs) 09:51, 25 May 2018 (EDT)

Advanced Technology Year[edit]

It may seem like a stupid question but what is an "Advanced Technology Year"? Is it different in universe from year available?--Dmon (talk) 08:37, 21 February 2019 (EST)

The idea is to track what year technologies move from Experimental Rules to Advanced Rules to Tournament Legal rules. Obviously I need to re-write that for clarity. --Mbear(talk) 08:39, 21 February 2019 (EST)
Ah ok... To me the prototype/year introduced seemed to essentially have it covered but I had not thught about all the rules stuff as I tend to think in universe terms.--Dmon (talk) 12:13, 21 February 2019 (EST)

Star League commands order[edit]

Hi Mbear,

I've seen that the Star League commands order is different from the rest. Units assigned in sub-level commands do appear also in the root (something that does not happen in other Military Commands Categories. Am I right if I consider this Category incorrectly done?

I also think there are categories missing that should help reorganize this a bit better? The level of sub commands can be huge, and I do not even know which is the best way to order them.

I tried to make this a general query, but have no idea on how to do it.--Pserratv (talk) 10:31, 18 July 2019 (EDT)

I wouldn't say "incorrectly done" exactly, but I see your point. I think what happened was the original SLDF commands category was created before FM:SLDF and other Star League era sourcebooks were published. Going by the limited information available in The Star League, this original category was probably enough.
Now that we have more info, you're probably right about a reorganization. By "sub commands" I assume you're talking about something like a category for units that are part of 1st Army (Star League), then a category for I Corps (Star League)'s constituent commands, etc. I see no problem with that. (In fact I think we started a category for Army and Corps level organizations: (Category:Star League Defense Force Commands - Army and Category:Star League Defense Force Corps) but frankly my job picked up and I haven't had a lot of time to keep working on Sarna.)
I also just created a new category as an example: Category:Star League Defense Force Auxiliary Corps which lists the various Auxiliary Corps used in the Reunification War.
However, I wouldn't recommend removing any existing specialist categories, like Category:Star League Defense Force Commands - Infantry Division.
Does that help at all or have I just confused the issue even more?--Mbear(talk) 09:06, 19 July 2019 (EDT)
Thanks for the tip. That was my idea, and delete existing categories was not in my mind :).--Pserratv (talk) 11:44, 19 July 2019 (EDT)
my problem with including units in say 1st Army is that if a casual user does not know it is part of 1st Army we have just made finding it exponentially harder not easier. 1st Sword of Light will always be easy to find because it shares the name of the next command level up.--Dmon (talk) 11:54, 19 July 2019 (EDT)
OK. That's a valid concern. How about we add the subcommand categories as described, but keep the giant list that Pserratv is complaining about? (Sorry Pserratv.) That way it's still broken down in a more manageable size, but the list is still there for casual users.--Mbear(talk) 11:56, 22 July 2019 (EDT)
If we do this, and I accept any ruling and I understand also why you are worried, we need to do first something on the commands now in General as... well, otherwise they'll be flooded and never be seen again. I accept suggestions. As per returning also some of them to both general and subcategories, which is the ruling? We are taling on more than 800 commands, not an easy decision to take on what should be at Category General level and what not.--Pserratv (talk) 15:31, 22 July 2019 (EDT)
