The Dioscuri were a mercenary unit employed by the Federated Suns.

Circa 3025, their unit strength was two regiments of medium BattleMechs along with infantry support, and they were under contract to the Federated Suns. Their commanding officers at the time were Colonel Timothy Nels and Colonel Michael Nels, with the unit skill level being noted as regular.[1]

In the War of 3039, the Sixteenth Galedon Regulars was assigned to assault Thestria and remove the AFFS forces that were on the world. The Dioscuri's Castor Regiment faced the Sixteenth and engaged in a bloody series of battles that inflicted heavy losses on the Regulars.[2] The First Proserpina Hussars arrived to support the Regulars, and the CO of the Hussars offered the mercenaries a chance to withdraw. Outraged by this, Tai-sa Leonard Kobayashi (a strong traditionalist) ordered his Sixteenth Regulars to attack the mercenaries. The Dioscuri troops destroyed the Regulars battalion while the Proserpina Hussars just watched. The mercenaries then took as much salvage from the wreck of the Regulars as they could and left the world.[3]

In 3050, the Dioscuri consisted of two regiments, Castor and Pollux. They were hired by the Federated Commonwealth and deployed in the Malagrotta PDZ. Castor (the first regiment) was stationed on Vackisujfalu, while Pollux (the second regiment) was assigned to garrison Great Gorge.[1] Their position near the Pirates Haven Cluster and Tortuga Dominions meant the two regiments were busy, but they were able to successfully hunt and engage pirate forces. They also rotated some of their command to the Filtvelt Military Academy to help train cadets.[4]

In the early 3060s, several Arctic Foxes began to appear among the Dioscuri.[5]

In 3064, the mercenaries supported the Sixth Donegal Guards against the Jade Falcon Delta Galaxy on Kikuyu. The unit lost most of their equipment before they could retreat back to Morges. The fighting left only one 'Mech battalion.

The unit formed part of the Allied Mercenary Command in 3066.[6]

In 3070, a Word of Blake signal intercepted by ROM indicated that the Blakists believed the Dioscuri to be located on Morges in the Lyran Alliance and considered the Dioscuri to be out of position to interfere with the Blakists' plans, but also indicated that the Dioscuri should be dealt with in a lethal and expedient manner if encountered.[7]

The Jade Falcon struck again in 3071 with Delta Galaxy. The command was during this time at regimental strength but the heavy fighting took its toll. Only two companies survived this encounter. The unit was a shadow of its former self.

Post-Jihad Era[edit]

The Dioscuri were in the employ of the Lyran Alliance at the end of the Jihad, and were stationed on Launam.[8]

Rank Name Command
Commanding Officers of The Dioscuri
Colonel Timothy Nels 3025 - 3059[9][10][11][12]
Colonel Owen Watson 3145[13]

The technical staff handles most of the repairs, but for transportation, the unit must count on their employers.

The Mule-class DropShip Kaleidoscope was under the control of the unit's survivors when they escaped Morges[14].

The 2nd battalion acts as a scout force and harasses the enemy, before the assault elements of the 1st battalion hammer the enemies' flanks. Their conventional forces are usually deployed alongside their 'Mech forces.
