Description[edit]
Following the introduction of the Fa Shih, Capellan Confederation Armed Forces leaders wanted battle armor to be made available to more units than just the most prestigious. Surprisingly, the Strategios listened and commissioned the design of a new battle armor. With funding from their Trinity Alliance allies, the CCAF put together a new unit in record time, leading to speculation that the design was already on the drawing board.[1][3]
The Trinity is really three different battle armors, all initially constructed by the Capellan Confederation. The Ying Long ("Shadow Dragon") uses the mimetic armor first created by Word of Blake for their Purifier, though how they acquired the technology is unknown. The Asterion and Theseus are functionally identical, but have different aesthetics. The Taurian Concordat is apparently unhappy at the decision of the Magistracy of Canopus to name their version after the legendary founder of Athens who slew the Minotaur.[1] The Periphery nations became more and more agitated when convenient mishaps kept production solely in the hands in the Capellans. Both nations finally resorted to reverse engineering the design, then put them quietly into production. This left the Capellans with egg on their face as their allies suddenly stopped purchasing the production runs.[3]
All three versions of the Trinity mount enough armor to stop a Large Laser and can move swiftly at 32 km/h on the ground.[1][2]
Weapons and Equipment[edit]
The Ying Long usually carries an infantry-scale Man-Portable Plasma Rifle. In addition to having a decent range and damage potential, the rifle is useful for starting fires. The Battle Claws used by the battlesuit enable it to make anti-'Mech attacks and ride OmniMechs into battle.[1][4]
Variants[edit]
- Asterion [MRR]
- This Taurian variant does not use mimetic armor, opting instead for standard armor that is easier to replace. It usually mounts a much easier to maintain Medium Recoilless Rifle, which actually deals half as much damage as the standard Plasma Rifle, but is supplied with twice as much ammunition. BV (1.0) = 49,[1] BV (2.0) = 40[2][5]
- Asterion (Upgrade) [PPC]
- Introduced during the Jihad, this version uses Advanced Armor for increased protection. It also carries a Vibro-Claw and Machine Gun for swarm attacks.[7] Additionally, this variant carries a Support PPC on the weapons mount. BV (2.0) = 44[8]
- Theseus (RL) [LRR]
- A typical variation on the Theseus, this version carries a Light Recoilless Rifle in the modular mount. To that, it adds a single Rocket Launcher 3. BV (2.0) = 39,[2] 38[11]
- Theseus (Support) "Killshot"
- A Grenade Launcher backs up nine one-shot rocket tubes (a Rocket Launcher 4 plus a Rocket Launcher 5).[7] BV (2.0) = 35[12]
- Ying Long BC3
- This experimental model carries a Battle Armor-scale C3 computer. These suits are generally equipped with "King David" Light Gauss Rifles. BV (2.0) = 33[13]
