History
The Forty-second Striker Regiment was one of the Star League units that did not leave with Kerensky during Operation EXODUS. After collapse of the Star League, the survivors of the regiment made the decision to turn mercenary, forming one of the original regiments of the Twelfth Star Guards.[1]
Third Succession War
In 3025, the Third was under contract to the Lyran Commonwealth and stationed on Lyons alongside their sister Seventh Regiment.[2]
Fourth Succession War
During the first wave of Operation GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG, the major Lyran Commonwealth offensive of the Fourth Succession War, the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces attacked Ko with the Third and Seventh Regiments of the Star Guards.[3] The defenders were of questionable loyalty, and didn't put up much of a fight in the face of the planetary assault.[4] The Third went on to capture Atria in the final wave of GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG;[3] with the defenders lacking any significant number of 'Mechs to oppose the Third, the planet fell easily.[5]
Following the lull in offensive operations after the third wave of GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG the Third deployed again during Operation HOLDUR, the operation devised by Margrave Jack Sphire of the Ryde Theater of the Commonwealth to break the deadlock in the local region. Almost a hundred regiments deployed in attacks across eight assorted Combine worlds in the Dieron Military District; in the case of the Third, that world was Lambrecht, which fell quickly after the Third destroyed the few 'Mechs found amongst the defending forces.[6]
Clan Invasion
Icar
The Fourth Wolf Guards overran the Third Regiment's Second Battalion within minutes of landing on Icar in March 3050. Colonel Hannah Caitlin ordered a counterattack, however this faltered against the Wolf forces and the remnant of the regiment attempted to flee the planet. Before they could reach their DropShips, Elementals captured them forcing the Third to surrender.[7][8][9]
Vantaa
In July 3050, The Third's Alpha and Bravo Battalions joined up with the Tenth Donegal Guards who had just retreated from Chateau with only two companies of 'Mechs and less than three conventional regiments left. Together they fought on Vantaa again against the Wolves, but this time under the rules of zellbrigen. After losing half of their troops, Wolves Star Colonel Carmin Winson allowed them to withdraw.[10]
Zoetermeer
Between September and 10 October 3050, The Third Regiment's Able Battalion and the Tenth Donegal Guards, now down to twenty-five percent strength, were prepared to make a brave stand on Zoetermeer against Clan Jade Falcon. Although Star Admiral Adrian Malthus had no actual intention on doing so, he bluffed the defenders into surrendering by threatening orbital bombardment by the Emerald Talon Naval Assault Star.[11]
