Judith Cameron was a House Cameron noble, novelist, and the 6th Director-General of the Terran Hegemony.

Character Description

In her youth, Judith displayed a violent dislike of authority and seemingly lacked the intelligence that her family was known for.

History

Early Life and Career

The youngest child and only daughter of Director-General Margaret Cameron, Judith never trained to assume the position of Director-General. Judith was under the impression that her mother would more than likely choose one of her brothers to become the next Director-General.

For a brief period in Judith's life, she joined the Hegemony Armed Forces where she continued to show her disregard for authority. Soon after being discharged from the service, she became a novelist during both her brothers' reigns.

In 2403, her brother Brian Cameron was killed by an enraged bull whilst touring the newly acquired world of Elbar. Upon hearing the news of his death, the high council was reluctant to immediately nominate her for the position of Director-General due to her disdain for authority and other attributes that did not measure up to the Cameron name. After two months of searching for a more suitable candidate, the council had no other choice but to contact Judith and inform her that was the only valid and able candidate to assume the Directorship. The citizenry of the Hegemony showed their faith in her and confirmed her as Director-General.

As Director-General of the Terran Hegemony

Reinforcing the Terran Hegemony for the Age of War

After assuming the throne, Judith surprised many with her continuance of Brian's military buildup. She also requested additional Castles Brian be constructed on worlds that lay on the border of the Capellan Confederation and the Free Worlds League. This action was due to the opening actions of the Age of War between the League and Confederation in 2398. She saw the proverbial writing on the wall that the great houses of Marik, Liao, and Kurita would soon turn their sights on the Hegemony.

Actions taken in early years of the Age of War

During the early years of her reign, she tried to maintain the Hegemony's neutrality. Despite her worrying about aggressive acts from their interstellar neighbors, she was able to maintain good relations with the Lyran Commonwealth and the slightly less stable Federated Suns.

The Terran Hegemony would be accidentally attacked or raided by Houses Kurita, Marik and Liao forces in the years leading up to 2407. That year the Draconis Combine began its incursion into the Lyran Commonwealth. Archon Alistair Marsden requested aid from Judith who declined to take part in any offensive actions, she would send troops to the worlds that they jointly-owned within Lyran Space. Alistair found this acceptable since it would free up additional troops that he needed to combat the Combine forces that were invading his domain. The agreement sent Hegemony forces to jointly-owned worlds such as Blue Diamond, Lyons, and Nusakan. The Hegemony forces would first clash against Combine forces on Lyons in 2408. The Hegemony forces used their heavy WarShip support to coordinate a defense to repel the invasion of the planet.

In 2409, Terra Firma would be invaded by the Capellan Confederation and laid under siege for months until the Black Chargers Tank Division would have to withdraw from the planet. Despite this setback, the planet would be liberated later that year with the help of the Marlow conducting covert operations waiting to signal the Hegemony Armed Forces to retake the world. Judith's government would be at odds with the Confederation despite its Chancellor's willingness to provide restitution to the Hegemony.

The Ares Conventions and Retirement

In 2412, the planet of Tintavel suffered a major tragedy. A fight broke out between the forces of the Free Worlds League and the Capellan Confederation where the fighting moved into the urban area. The battle kept escalating until both sides used weapons of mass destruction which led to the deaths of 300,000 civilians and the planet having to be abandoned. The atrocities of Tintavel would cause Chancellor Aleisha Liao of the Capellan Confederation to conduct an aggressive diplomatic campaign to get the major powers of the Inner Sphere together in order to create rules of engagement which would bring the end to such events like the one on Tintavel.

In order to encourage the major states to take part in the summit, which was to be held on the world of Ares, Aleisha turned to Judith and her Terran Hegemony to assist in guarding the arriving dignitaries. Judith agreed to the request despite the split opinions of her nation. She felt it would highlight the Hegemony's neutrality and make the nation look good. She had 10 flotillas of WarShips and men to guard the leaders of all interstellar communities to the Capellan world.

Judith would attend the convention where a debate raged on between those who were in favor of the document and those who were against the document. The representatives from the Capellan Confederation and the Lyran Commonwealth were for it, while the representatives from the Free Worlds League and the Draconis Combine were against it. Judith and the representatives from the Federated Suns remained silent during the hearings. Eventually, all but two Periphery nations would sign the document which later became known as the Ares Conventions, which would make war legal.

In 2419, Judith would retire from office after 18 years of service and hand off the reins of power to her nephew Richard.
