The Erewhon system was the location of at least one inhabited world, Erewhon V, and (as of 3145) was located in the Clan Jade Falcon Occupation Zone.[3][4] It was approximately 483 light-years from Terra in the coreward direction.

System Description[edit]

The Erewhon system was located near the Götterdämmerung and Lackhove systems[5][6] and consisted of a class A7V primary, orbited by at least five planets. During the thirty-first century, a recharge station was in place at the system's zenith jump point.[1]

System History[edit]

The Erewhon system was either settled by the Rim Worlds Republic during the Star League era at some point after the end of the Reunification War,[5][6][7] or was an already-inhabited system that became significant enough during this era for Inner Sphere nations to begin recording its location on maps.

Planetary History[edit]

Rim Worlds Campaign[edit]

Following the coup launched by Stefan Amaris, Commanding General Aleksandr Kerensky, the Commanding Officer of the Star League Defense Force, announced that he intended to occupy the Rim Worlds Republic. General Kerensky established the Fourteenth Army Group as the lead Army Group for the invasion, divided the invasion forces into two task forces, one headed by himself, and the other by General Aaron DeChavilier.[41] Like the rest of the Republic worlds, Erewhon was invaded by the SLDF, and by May 2768 Erewhon was considered a pacified world. The SLDF received a salutary example of the dangers in relaxing their guard on occupied worlds three months later, when on the 17th of September insurgents attempted to assassinate General Kerensky. Kerensky was visiting Fort Merrimack, a former SLDF fortress that had been constructed by prior to the Army Group Amaris being ordered to withdraw from the Republic in 2755. The SLDF had taken control of Fort Merrimack and were using it as a base of operations, and while Kerensky was at the base, insurgents attempted to bomb the complex using a stolen catering truck. The anti-car bomb defenses triggered by the gate guard stopped the truck as it approached the gate, and the driver was shot; when an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team approached the truck, they found that the driver had been equipped with a dead man's switch, that had failed to activate because of the way in which the driver's body had been lodged in the cab. Rather than the anticipated chemical explosive the EOD troops expected to find, the truck was found to be carrying a fifty-kiloton nuclear weapon, which was primed and active.[42]

Clan Invasion[edit]

Predominantly known for its wool and sheep herding, Erewhon was conquered by Clan Jade Falcon during Operation REVIVAL, the Clan invasion of the Inner Sphere; as one of the worlds of the Greater Valkyrate, Erewhon was one of the earlier worlds to be captured. An Elemental Binary from the Fourth Falcon Talon was sent to fight the Erewhon Militia entrenched in the capital city of Rangitata, while Star Captain Sophia Thastus fought MechWarrior Sigland Idleson in her Grasshopper. Both battles ended in a Jade Falcon victory.[43]

Jihad[edit]

During the Jihad, Erewhon was invaded a second time; this time, it was Clan Ice Hellion, who had launched a widespread invasion of the Jade Falcon holdings in the Inner Sphere. The Ice Hellion invasion began in April 3071;[32] Erewhon would remain an Ice Hellion possession until September of the same year, when the Jade Falcons recaptured the world.[33][34]

After it was taken by the Jade Falcons, Erewhon became an important world for the Falcon Scientist Caste. In fact it was mostly hidden from outsiders. The fighting of the early Jihad inflicted heavy damage on the world's infrastructure.[1]

Dark Age[edit]

The Eagle Craft Group on Erewhon were responsible for much of the development work involved in producing the Chalchiuhtotolin support tank for the Jade Falcons, and it was on Erewhon that the Chalchiuhtotolin would receive a baptism of fire in the mid 3080s. A raiding party consisting of both light 'Mechs and hovercraft, including Savannah Masters, attempted to either damage or steal from the DropPort facilities near the Jade Falcon production center. A handful of Chalchiuhtotolins successfully drove off the attacking forces.[44]
