In 3027, rumors began spreading around the royal court that Emil von Richter, younger brother of Duke Elias von Richter, was amassing a large force intending to claim what he believed was rightfully his. Elias hired a mercenary outfit to attack the forces assembling on Emil's land in order to gather information about them, and their BattleMechs' gun camera footage and sensor readings identified them as belonging to the Free Worlds League. Having been exposed, the League troops quickly mobilized and moved on Elias' estate, only to be repelled attempting to ford the Verona River by the combined resistance of the House Richter Honor Guard and entire Penobscot militia. Emil retreated to his villa in the Prospect Mountains while the FWL forces prepared their defenses along the only road that travels through the area. Even with the terrain and artillery support, they were unable to withstand the ensuing siege; Emil surrendered and the League abandoned him, having taken on too many casualties.[37]

Clan Invasion Era[edit]

In 3055 Penobscot was the site of the First Fusiliers of Oriente's most significant raid after its service in the Andurien Secession. One battalion was secretly deployed to the world ahead of the main force, disrupting the AFFC defenders and preventing them from countering the raiders.[38]

Jihad[edit]

Following the invasion of the Free Worlds League by the Skye and Bolan Provinces of the Lyran Alliance in what was termed Operation ÜBERSCHATTEN, Marshall Jeremy Brett took command of the local FWLM and launched a counteroffensive, under the name Operation BROKEN FIST. BROKEN FIST went beyond simply attempting to recapture worlds that the Lyrans had seized, striking into Lyran space across numerous worlds. Penobscot was one of the worlds hit and was assaulted by the League forces on the 28 September 3068.[26]
