Description

The heaviest post-Succession Wars era WarShip design in the Draconis Combine fleet, the Kirishima-class Cruiser emphasizes firepower and speed at the cost of armor and cargo capacity.

The second modern WarShip design developed by the Combine, and the most numerous after the lead Kyushu, the Kirishima is superior to other SLDF cruisers such as the Sovetskii Soyuz still in service in the Clan toumans, mounting more weaponry and a Lithium-Fusion Battery System and with a much higher thrust capacity. While below some of the other modern Great House vessels developed around the same time, 1,099 and a half tons of Ferro-Carbide armor is again superior to SLDF ships of the same weight and role.

Armament

Like many post-Helm Memory Core Inner Sphere designs, the Kirishima features a mix of both anti-fighter and capital class weaponry. The nose bays feature a single NAC/25 and Light NPPC supported by twin Medium NPPCs, rounded out with four Large and Medium Pulse Lasers and two ER Large Lasers, Small Pulse Lasers and ER PPCs each. Each forward and aft angle mounts a NAC/30, two NAC/20s, NL45 and Medium NPPCs each, supported by the same anti-fighter weaponry as the nose. The broadsides continue this thread in light weaponry, with captial weapons consisting of two NL45s and Medium NPPCs in support of a massive Heavy N-Gauss cannon. The rear of the craft apes the nose, save for dropping the Light NPPC.

Cargo

While featuring impressive speed and firepower, the Kirishima can not operate away from home for extended periods due to its relatively small cargo capacity for its size of 12,326 tons. Aside from its ability to carry three DropShips, the Kirishima caries just twelve AeroSpace Fighters and two Small Craft.

Named Vessels

  • DCS Urizen II - Originally stationed at its construction site of Midway, the Urizen II was the only one of its class produced away from Togura and was launched in mid 3058 well ahead of schedule. [1] During the Jihad the ship's crew was co-opted by the Black Dragon Society and launched a successful series of attacks on Clan Nova Cat merchant JumpShips and Carrack-class WarShips before being destroyed by the Black Lion-class Severen Leroux above Avon in 3072. [2]
  • DCS Takashi - Effectively combat ready as of in early 3059 at Togura, the commissioning Takashi was delayed to foster public interest in the Combine's WarShip projects. [3]
  • DCS Shiro Launched from Togura, the Shiro entered service along side the Urizen II well ahead of schedule. Based by the DCMS at Benjamin, [4] the Shiro was destroyed in mid-3059 during Operation Bulldog.[5]
  • DCS Siriwan - The last Kirisma-class ship built, the Siriwan fell under the sway of the Black Dragon Society and made a misguided attempt to cow the Arkab Legion into line with an orbital bombardment of two cities on Algedi in 3072, in retaliation the Azami destroyed it with two Peacemaker-class missiles with nuclear warheads.[6]
  • FCS Covenant - A sign of the level of detente between the Combine and the Victor Steiner-Davion led Federated Commonwealth, an unfinished Kirishima hull was delivered to the New Syrtis Shipyards where it underwent extensive refitting and cosmetic modification to become the lead ship of the so-called Convenant-class and entered active service prior to 3062. [7] Stationed at New Syrtis during the FedCom Civil War, the Covenant fought against the Loyalist Avalon-class FCS Hanse Davion on November 1st 3065, ramming and destroying the Loyalist ship at the cost of itself.[8]
