Description[edit]
Field Manual: Updates is the eleventh release in the Field Manuals series and contains, as its name implies, updates of the information published in previous Field Manuals to July-October 3067. It is divided into sections, each analogous to one of the previous ten Field Manuals, which each section containing a historical update, followed by detailed information on the military forces, and ending with a list of units that contains their quality rating, loyalty, and planetary base.
This sourcebook is the first that features enhanced Deployment Tables, abbreviated as C/SL/O(R). This represented each unit's percentage of Clan/Star League technology they possessed, the percentage of Omni units, and the Random Assignment Table to roll on. Clan forces displayed a 1 (for front-line) or 2 (for second-line) units, while Inner Sphere forces displayed A through F for Equipment Rating, with A being the superior. This enhanced tables were also used in the Mercenaries Supplemental series.
From the Back Cover[edit]
| “ | REVIEW THE TROOPS
For five long years the Inner Sphere has known war on a scale not seen in centuries, with the militaries of literally every faction involved in combat to one extent or another. Now, as relative peace appears to be settling over the Inner Sphere, a review of the military forces of the BattleTech universe are in order. Classic BattleTech Field Manual: Updates updates all ten Field Manuals, including a history section that will bridge the gap between where the appropriate Field Manual left off and the current year of 3067, as well as a complete and current TO&E for all factions. Updated random 'Mech assignment tables for all factions are also included. |

Notes[edit]
- The book was reprinted in 2005 as Version 1.0, with additional corrections.
- The original printing had Updates on the cover; the 2005 reprint has Update.
- The trademarked title was Classic BattleTech Field Manual: Update in both printings.
- On p. 65, the WarShip CSR Cold Hunter is listed under "Naval Assets" of Clan Snow Raven. This has since been retconned/clarified as an error—no such ship ever existed in the Snow Raven touman. (see also: Cold Hunter)
