Clan Nova Cat Naval Forces
Clan Nova Cat Naval Forces | |
Affiliation | Clan Nova Cat |
Parent Command | Clan Nova Cat touman |
For much of its history, Clan Nova Cat kept the third-largest naval fleet among the Clans. While the Clan lacked the most massive of the vessels, the sheer breadth available and the warrior's allowance of the Clan's Merchant Caste to work free of onerous oversight,[1] and the merchants were given several warships as protectors. This ability made the Nova Cats one of the leading Clans in exploiting new resources and revenue. During Operation BULLDOG, the Nova Cats allowed years of negotiation with the Draconis Combine to come to fruition, joining the Star League and redesignating their WarShips with the SLS prefix.[2]
The Combine-Ghost Bear War lay bare the disrespect with which the Clans held the Nova Cats following their Abjurement, a state which the Nova Cats were not willing to let continue, attacking the Naval Yards at Alshain in 3067. The Trial of Retribution required two batchalls and did not result in the Nova Cats gaining a Leviathan, but the Nova Cats finally recovered their honor, bloodying the Ghost Bears at the cost of much of their naval strength.[3]
The dissolution of the Second Star League was another blow to the Nova Cats, though they wholeheartedly joined the coalition against the Word of Blake, where the lost nearly all of their WarShips, eventually losing much of their ground Galaxies and the rest of their Naval strength to Devlin Stone and the Republic of the Sphere. Post-Jihad, they maintained a DropShip/Merchant Carrack Fleet only.[4]

After the Nova Cats joined the Second Star League and were subsequently Abjured from the other Clans, the Nova Cat naval reserves became a part of the Second Star League Defense Force. The Nova Cats lost none of their naval assets in their relocation to the Inner Sphere.[6] Due to tensions between the newly settled Nova Cats and the Draconis Combine, the Nova Cats rotated assignments often to ensure that at least one WarShip was assigned to each planet in the Irece Prefecture.[2]

Note[edit]
While most Clan Nova Cat Carrack-class vessels are not noted as having survived the Jihad, it was clarified by one of the Line Developers that the Clan Nova Cat merchant caste ships, as noncombat ships, should not have been listed in the first place, and that some at least survived.
“ | It is not a WarShip per say, so it is not included in the rolls of offensive weapons. Same with the Clan Merchant Carracks, they were removed because they should never had been included in the first place. But Clan Nova Cat does have some merchant Carracks left, even if they have no proper WarShips.
