Planetary History[edit]

Third Succession War[edit]

Misery is most famous as the site of the Battle of Misery. Following their betrayal by the Draconis Combine, Wolf's Dragoons retreated to Misery, issuing a direct challenge in the process. Immediately following the final expiry of their contract with the Combine, the Dragoons engaged and defeated the forces sent against them, despite initial tactical and numerical superiority by Combine forces. The battle concluded with the seppuku of Minobu Tetsuhara, made in recompense for losing almost all his forces to the Dragoons and for leading forces against people he considered his friends. The seppuku was seconded by Jaime Wolf and attended by all the Dragoon commanders, as a show of personal friendship; the fact that he was attended by his enemies and not his own officers also showed that Tetsuhara considered his orders dishonorable. This battle cemented the vendetta between the Combine and the Dragoons, which led to the Dragoons explicitly requesting to be fielded against their former employer in their new contract with the Federated Suns; the mutual hatred would last until the Battle of Luthien during the Clan Invasion, when the Dragoons deployed to defend the Combine capital.[citation needed]

Jihad[edit]

Between 7 and 14 August 3068, Misery was one of six worlds raided by a combination of small 'Mech units in the employ of the Draconis March of the Federated Suns and teams of Federated Suns commandos. The deep objective raids targeted undefended worlds, allegedly to find and liberate prisoners of war in captivity within the Combine since the FedCom Civil War. The six worlds targeted were Altais, Barlow's Folly, Beta Mensae V, Chichibu, Junction, and Misery, and apparently some POWs were discovered.[51]

Dark Age[edit]

After years of being a disputed system within the Draconis Reach, the forces of Wolf's Dragoons, in the employ of the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery, drove the last of the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns defenders off Misery during the Battle of Misery (3139).[52]
