Description[edit]

The Shadow Hawk IIC is an inexpensive, second-line Clan BattleMech based upon the Shadow Hawk that was first fielded by the Star League.

A contemporary of the Hellhound and introduced just before the death of Nicholas Kerensky, the Shadow Hawk IIC was an early Golden Century upgrade of the classic SLDF workhorse, its success waning with the rise of the OmniMech. Relegated to second-line and garrison units, the Shadow Hawk IIC appeared heavily within the ranks of the Provisional Garrison Clusters of the various Invading Clans, with Inner Sphere forces frequently encountering the design during raiding into the Clan Occupation Zones whether during the initial Clan Invasion or ilClan era.[2]

Weapons and Equipment[edit]

Like the other Clan upgrades of the classic 55-ton trio, the Shadow Hawk IIC is lighter and faster yet retains similar level of protection and armament, resulting in a highly cost-effective 'Mech. The Shadow Hawk IIC is built on a lightweight Lang T3 endo steel chassis, protected by seven and a half tons of Compound H17 ferro-fibrous armor. This medium 'Mech can reach a respectable top speed of 97.2 km/h thanks to a Consolidated 270 fusion engine, but it also carries enough Northrup Starlifters M45 jump jets to vault up to 180 meters at a time.[2] [5]

Where the original Shadow Hawk was a more multi-role machine, the Shadow Hawk IIC was meant for close-range fighting, and appears to be designed with urban warfare in mind. Two Series 14a medium pulse lasers are incredibly accurate in close combat, while four highly accurate Series 2d Streak SRM-2s are best at exploiting holes in an enemy's armor. An Pattern J2 ER medium laser and Series 1 ER small laser rounds out the weaponry. 10 double heat sinks take care of most heat, especially since the Streaks will build no heat if they do not achieve a lock and fire.[2][5]

Variants[edit]

  • Shadow Hawk IIC
First fielded in 3060, the Shadow Hawk IIC 4 was a joint effort by Clan Nova Cat and Clan Diamond Shark to upgrade their second-line forces. The result was a 'Mech that is visually very different from the design it is a variant of. This 'Mech carries a Type 6 Series ATM-6 with three tons of ammunition to allow for flexibility of choice. The missile launcher is backed up by two Series 14NC Medium Pulse Lasers and a Series 2NC ER Medium Laser. BV (1.0) = 1,663 BV (2.0) = 1,698[8]
  • Shadow Hawk IIC
This Clan Hell's Horses built version uses an XL engine to make room for a HAG 20 and three tons of ammunition. To back it up, the Shadow Hawk IIC 6 mounts two Medium Pulse Lasers, an ER Small Laser, and a Small Pulse Laser.[9] BV (2.0) = 1,907[11]
  • Shadow Hawk IIC
This Clan Snow Raven variant is used in space combat to support or repel boarding attacks. Eight Improved Jump Jets tied into extended capacity fuel tanks allow the Shadow Hawk IIC 7 to maneuver in space very easily. Once grounded, the smaller 225-rated XL engine reduces the top speed slightly, but the jump jets easily compensate for this. To reduce handling problems in space the weapons array consists of low-recoil Series 6b ER Large Lasers, Series 2d ER Medium Lasers, and a Series 14a Medium Pulse Laser. In fact the only recoil-producing weapon is the Type 6 ATM-6 in the right torso. Three tons of ammunition space allow the Shadow Hawk IIC 7 pilot to tailor the weapon load depending on the situation. BV (2.0) = 1,999[12]
  • Shadow Hawk IIC
This Diamond Shark variant increases the maximum speed of the 'Mech to 97.2 km/h with the use of a 270-rated XL engine, and nine Improved Jump Jets allow it to cover 270 meters in a single bound. A head-mounted ECM suite disrupts enemy electronic systems. Armaments come in the form of ER Large Laser and LRM-10 for long ranges, while a Heavy Medium Laser and Micro Pulse Laser is mounted in each arm for close ranges. This variant carries slightly less armor on the limbs and center torso. BV (2.0) = 1,940[13]
  • Shadow Hawk IIC
This variant was introduced in the Dark Age. It carries an ER Large Laser, an ATM-6, and two ER Medium Lasers. It has a top speed of 97.2 km/h, and can jump 180 meters at a time. BV (2.0) = 1,803[14]
  • Shadow Hawk IIC 10
This Clan Hell's Horses built variant equips an Ultra Autocannon/10 in the left torso as an imposing primary weapon, and is protected against ammunition explosions by CASE. Similar to other variants, this variant supports its main gun with two Medium Pulse Lasers and a Small Pulse Laser, and also equips an ER Small Laser. Six jump jets provide excellent mobility, and ten Double Heat Sinks keep operating temperatures managable.[2] BV (2.0) = 1,760[15]
  • Shadow Hawk IIC 11
Designed by Clan Hell's Horses for use in Operation NOYAN to compliment the 10, this variant equips an Improved Heavy Medium Laser in each arm and mounts an ER Medium Laser in its head, as well as an ER Small Laser mounted in the center torso, all of which are slaved to a Targeting Computer for improved fire control. This variant also equips four SRM-2 launchers with CASE protection for the ammunition and six Jump Jets, and is protected by Ferro-Lamellor Armor. The heat burdens created by this variant's weapons loadout are scarcely compensated for by ten Double Heat Sinks.[2] BV (2.0) = 1,692[16]

Custom Variants[edit]

  • Shadow Hawk IIC Mordred
The personal 'Mech of Inner Sphere adoptee Mordred, the former Twelfth Star Guards astech extensively modified his 'Mech, mounting an XL engine to mount a Hyper-Assault Gauss Rifle in a shoulder mount similar to the original Shadow Hawk'. Ultimately taken by the impressed Clan Hell's Horses as isorla, Mordred's 'Mech would serve as the foundation upon which the Shadow Hawk IIC 6 and 10 are based.[2]
