The task force had faced setbacks earlier in the war, and was proceeding slowly in 2579, making sure that planets were targetted with overwhelming numbers of troops to reduce the effect of any resistance; as a result, on the 3rd of December 2579, SLDF forces consisting of the Fifty-ninth and Sixtieth Brigades supported by the Second Orloff Grenadiers and the Third Regulan Hussars landed on Bethonolog under the overall command of SLDF General Mancini.[8][34]
