System Information
X:Y Coordinates-79.282 : 210.528[e]

The Borghese system was home to at least one habitable world and as of June 3152 was located in the Tamar Pact.[1]

System Description

The Borghese system is located near the Grunwald and Surcin systems.[2][3]

System History

The Borghese system was settled during or shortly after the First Exodus from Terra and was a part of the Tamar Pact prior to the formation of the Lyran Commonwealth in the twenty-fourth century.[4]

Planetary History

Succession Wars

The population of Borghese was self-sustaining, providing its own food crops and famed for its exotic fish export known as the "mermaid" fish. The planet's capital was named Houston, which was also its largest city. As of 3054, the majority of the population lived in Houston, while the rest of its population lived in smaller towns and villages. Early settlers had tried to expand their habitats to the oceans of Borghese, however the planet's violent ocean storms made this impractical.[35]

Jihad

Clan Wolf attacked and conquered Borghese during the second half of January 3070 as one of a series of assaults into Lyran Alliance space, shadowing the path taken by Clan Jade Falcon, who were also using the disruption caused by the Jihad to annex a number of Lyran worlds.[26]

Dark Age

Clan Wolf-in-Exile mounted a raid upon Borghese's Mettle Archipelago in 3108 to test the newly designed Mongrel BattleMech. The new machine acquitted itself well and the raid ended in victory for the First Wolf Guardians Binary carrying it out.[36]

After Clan Wolf abandoned its Occupation Zone in 3137, Borghese was eventually annexed by Clan Jade Falcon.[2]

IlClan Era

When the Falcon Occupation Zone collapsed into anarchy following the Battle of Terra, Borghese was left effectively independent. Being a self-sufficient world whose populace was pro-Clan, the warrior caste governor resisted the reborn Tamar Pact's overtures and perished along with the garrison when the Pact's military invaded. While the civilian caste council officially, if grudgingly, accepted the change in Borghese's allegiance, the planet was wracked by constant rioting by Clan-born civilians who demanded a return to Clan rule. A change in governor and the Tamar Pact's respect for their customs helped ease anti-government sentiment, and acceptance of their new nation began to take hold amongst Borghese's population.[37][38][39]

Geography

Borghese is a world of vast salt water oceans. The surface is devoid of continents; instead it is dotted with islands, the largest of which is smaller than Terra's continent of Australia.[35]

Planetary Locations

  • Houston: the planetary capital and largest city.[35][48]
  • Mettle Archipelago: uninhabited island chain in the southern hemisphere.[36]
