Once a tropical planet with oceans, Gravenhage was desertified when its orbit shifted closer to its sun. In 3048, a disgruntled mercenary unit known as the Dread Legion, led by Colonel Daniel "Jungle Tiger" Brenner, occupied the planet after the breakdown of arbitration over a previous contract with the Draconis Combine. The Combine hired a second mercenary company to help deal with the Dread Legion.

Unbeknownst to the Combine, there was another reason the Dread Legion was on Gravenhage: tracking down a cache of Star League LosTech containing computers, data, and weapons.

The battle began on 3 May with the two forces fighting to control the town of Drevenshire and its critical water supplies. It is unclear whether the Combine was able to control the town, or if they were driven off-planet by the Dread Legion. In any case, the final battle took place on 20 September over the cache itself, which the Legion had taken from a former Star League underwater research facility and squirreled away in the wreck of an ocean liner. Again, it is unclear who ultimately walked away with the cache: the town of Drevenshire, the Combine, the Combine's mercenaries, or the Dread Legion. Subsequently, the technology may have been sold to the Federated Commonwealth for several hundred million C-bills.[30]
