Planetary Info

Kelenfold is a largely unexceptional world; smaller than Terra, with a smaller nickel-iron core and correspondingly lower gravity, Kelenfold orbits a bright white star. Kelenfold also has a more eccentric orbit than Terra, with a more pronounced axial inclination and a weaker electromagnetic field, leading to more extreme seasons and considerably more cosmic radiation striking the surface of the planet. This has led to a markedly higher cancer rate among the population, and the thinner atmosphere combined with the lower air pressure means that visitors to Kelenfold are advised to avoid exertion, drink plenty of water and wait for their bodies to adjust to the lower pressure and gravity before attempting anything strenuous.[1]

Planetary History

Founding

Named for a neighbourhood of the city of Budapest on Terra that was itself named after a ninth century Hungarian chieftan, Kelenfold was settled primarily by Hungarian colonists, and despite the ethnic blending typical of Inner Sphere worlds Kelenfold is still noted for its excellent ghoulash as late as the thirty-first century.[1]

The Jihad

Clan Wolf attacked and conquered Kelenfold during the second half of January 3070 as one of a series of assaults into Lyran Alliance space, shadowing the path taken by Clan Jade Falcon, who were also using the disruption caused by the Jihad to annex a number of Lyran worlds.[8] Clan Wolf seized Kelenfold not for any particular merits the planet itself possessed, but rather for it's astrographical location; Kelenfold was ideally located to act as the jumping-off point for further Clan Wolf attacks into the heart of the Inner Sphere. The assault was conducted by the 1st Wolf Assault Cluster, led by Ivan Kerensky; the 1st Wolf Assault Cluster garrisoned Kelenfold until they were recalled back to Tamar, at which point the Silver Keshik of Beta Galaxy was rotated in to act as the garrison.[1] Ivan Kerensky would return to Kelenfold by 3075, replacing Marialle Radick after her death on Tamar during the scouring of that world.[12]
