Planetary History[edit]

Kaznejoy was a sun-baked world with modest ore deposits that prompted colonization in the early twenty-fourth century. Since then, the population has imported life-forms to make this world more habitable.[1]

Star League[edit]

During the Star League Era, Kaznejoy's tourist industry took advantage of their artificial ecology by billing their world as "The best planet mankind can build." The amount of investment on the world led to a garrison from the Star League Defense Force and the controls for the orbiting mirrors and solar power stations being located in the SLDF base, Fort Darwin.[45]

Kaznejoy was also the homeport for the Fifteenth Fleet of the SLDF.[46]

Succession Wars[edit]

Unfortunately the fall of the Star League and the Succession Wars had a major effect on the planet. The satellites broke down and couldn't be repaired. Kaznejoy eventually returned to its original desert ecology, losing two of three artificial seas that the original colonists created.[1] On top of that, over the years the weather satellites felt into disrepair, and work only sporadically, sometimes causing great storms that whip the growing deserts with wind and lightning.[1] In addition the mineral resources that attracted the original settlers were exhausted centuries ago. With little to offer, Kaznejoy's population began to emigrate in the 3020s. The only real asset the world offers is its vast desert plains, which the DCMS uses for training purposes.[1]

By 3025 there has been talk of moving the prefecture capital from Gondovia on Kaznejoy to Celeste City on nearby Waldheim. Also, Kaznejoy frequently hosted skirmishes with Kurita units on the large barren deserts outside the military base.[1]

Jihad[edit]

During the Jihad the world retained its importance. It remained a prefecture capital and the DCMS training facility was expanded to include training for DEST teams. Beyond this, however, the world is marginal at best.[2]

The Dark Age[edit]

In 3129 Tai-shu Matsuhari Toranaga was the target of an assassination attempt on Kaznejoy. The attempted assassination was foiled by Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery battle armor infantry equipped with Kishi suits, and their success in saving the Warlord sealed the popularity of Kishi battle armor with the DCMS.[47]

Geography[edit]

Kaznejoy was considered one of the most beautiful worlds in the Inner Sphere, with one major landmass Wanaland where the capital city Gondovia is located.[2] By engineering the planet's ecology, the dry desert world was replaced by a lush biosphere. The cornerstone of these efforts was a series of satellites that altered the amount of sunlight that reached the planet's surface.

Planetary Locations[edit]

Notes[edit]

The planet is spelled in Field Manual: Updates as Kaznejov.[53] This system was originally named Kaznejov; however, on early maps the "500 lightyears from Terra" line intersected the letter "v" and made it look like a "y". When specifically asked about the matter, the Line Developer decreed that "Kaznejoy" was the canonically correct spelling.[56]
