Planetary History[edit]

Reunification War[edit]

Located on the border between the Outworlds Alliance and the Draconis Combine during the mid-twenty-sixth century, Valentina possessed only a basic militia when the Star League campaign to forcibly incorporate the Alliance into the Star League began in 2581. The people of Valentina knew that Alliance president Grigori Avellar had abandoned them and that the Star League forces would invade Valentina sooner or later; this resulted in a referendum in November 2581 in which the majority vote was to surrender arms and capitulate should Star League forces attack.[5]

When the Star League Outworlds Alliance Task Force targeted in Valentina in 2582, it wasn't troops from the Star League Defense Force that landed on Valentina; instead, General Amos Forlough tasked two of the regiments from the auxiliary force provided by the Draconis Combine to occupy the world. The arrival of the Seventeenth and Twenty-fourth Galedon Regulars resulted in a mass uprising as the native Valentinians rose-up to oppose the invaders. With the Santiago Massacre still fresh in the collective memory of the civilian population and the stories of Alliance civilians being executed on a continuing basis on worlds already occupied by Combine forces, the decision to use Combine units to annex Valentina resulted in resistance from the population lasting for months after the two-hour battle that wiped out the militia forces.[5]

Despite occupying the three major cities on Valentina and actively following General Forlough's order to punish resistance to the will of the Star League by decimating civilian populations, the occupying Combine forces couldn't bring a quick end to the civilian resistance. The Combine garrison rounded up one in ten citizens and executed them in front of their fellow citizens, destroyed every property that they believed had housed or might house a bomb-making lab or resistance cell, brutally punished any violation of group assembly laws or the strict curfew imposed, and still the civilian population continued to resist, tying up troops that Forlough would have been better able to use in his campaign against other Alliance worlds.[5]

The Star League forces and their Combine auxiliaries continued to use Valentina as a base for further operations in 2582, with the Fourteenth Division of V Corps stationed for most of 2582, of which the Forty-first Brigade would return to Valentina in 2584 and 2585. On 1 August 2585, Valentina was ceded to the Draconis Combine along with thirteen other worlds as part of the terms laid out within the Treaty of Cerberus.[6]

Star League[edit]

During the final years of the Star League, Valentina was the host to a SLDF garrison.[53]

Succession Wars[edit]

Valentina was the last system that the mysterious Minnesota Tribe was last sighted in before ComStar claimed to lose their trail afterwards.[54]
