For most of its history, Schuyler was protected by the vast distance between it and the Lyran Commonwealth border. In these early years Schuyler focused on agricultural production and later gained industry. After the formation of the Free Rasalhague Republic, however, the border became much closer. This wasn't a problem until the formation of the Ghost Bear Dominion, which turned a calm border into a tense one. The presence of one of the last JumpShip yards within one jump of a potentially hostile border insures that the DCMS will pay particular attention to defending the world.[1]
