Planetary History
Early History
When news of the massacre of thousands of civilians on Summit by Terran Alliance military forces in 2236 reached Uhuru, a group of one hundred and fifty thousand colonists dispatched to settle on Uhuru under the designation Uhuru Settlement Group Gamma decided to rebel. Persuading their JumpShip crews to join them in fleeing the Inner Sphere and Terran Alliance oppression, the colonists - now calling themselves the Axumite Settlement Group - traded their Uhuru-specific seedstocks and similar supplies to the other colonists, in exchange for rations, spares and supplies, and set off for the anti-spinward region of the Periphery. The Axumite Settlement Group subsequently evaded Terran Alliance efforts to intercept them and recover the expensive terraforming equipment, and went on to found the Deep Periphery nation known as the Axumite Providence.[10]
First Succession War
By the end of the Star League era Uhuru was a major industrial center, but the First Succession War devastated the planet. By 2820 those living on Uhuru were reduced to a bare subsistence level of existence.[20]
Third Succession War
Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces and Free Worlds League Military units were battling each other on Uhuru in 3010. One notable event during these battles was a raid conducted by elements of the mercenary unit Cranston Snord's Irregulars, who were assigned to Uhuru as a supporting unit for the Lyran forces. Five of the Irregulars' MechWarriors including Rhonda Snord staged an unauthorized night raid against a supply depot belonging to the Fifteenth Marik Militia. Rhonda's party were caught in a trap by defending 'Mechs who used hitherto-unknown new jamming equipment, and had to be rescued by Cranston Snord and Samual Sneede. The Irregulars managed a retreat, and the information about the enemy jammers from this chance encounter proved invaluable to the Lyrans.[2]
