Succession Wars

Second Succession War

New Caledonia was the site of one of the most protracted conflicts of the Second Succession War. From 2841 to 2848, the Lyran Fourth Royal Guards, led by Colonel Hinders, defended the world against multiple DCMS regiments, including the Combine Fourth Sword of Light, the Sixth Rasalhague Regulars and the Seventh Rasalhague Regulars. Deprived of reinforcements and resources, the Forth Royal Guards campaign went from open resistance to a guerrilla war. Against any other Combine commander, the losses they inflicted would have driven would have driven the invaders off world. However, the invading Combine force was led by Hugai Kurita, the Coordinator's eldest son. So the Combine forced held on to take the world from the Lyran Commonwealth after a protracted and devastating campaign.[45]

Fourth Succession War

New Caledonia was one of the worlds attacked in the opening wave of Operation GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG, the major Lyran Commonwealth offensive of the Fourth Succession War. Defending New Caledonia was the Second An Ting Legion, along with a large contingent of aerospace fighters. Desite the heavier than anticipated aerospace presence, the Tenth Donegal Guards RCT and the Thirtieth Lyran Guards RCT arrived in the New Caledonia system on the 22nd of August 3028, achieving total surprise over the defending forces. The Thirtieth dropped north of Redfev, the planetary capital city and major industrial center, while the Tenth dropped to the south of the city. The Second An Ting Legion managed to withdraw from New Caledonia, but the two Lyran RCTs inflicting enough damage on the Legion that more than a fifth of its equipment had been lost before the Legion escaped.[19]

Free Rasalhague Republic

New Caledonia became part of the Free Rasalhague Republic when the new state was created in 3034. Theodore Kurita had allowed the Republic's inception in part because it would force the Lyran Commonwealth to release the worlds they had just captured from the Draconis Combine to the Republic, and New Caledonia was one of these worlds.

This earned the Oberon Confederation the ire of the Free Rasalhague Republic. Clan Invasion

Operation Revival

In March 3050 the planet was invaded by the Command Nova, Trinary Assault and Binary Fighter of Clan Wolf's 328th Assault Cluster. The 2nd Drakøns, supported by the 1st and 4th Militia Tank Regiments and 8th Militia Infantry Regiment, initially resisted the attackers at Avesta and Kumla but were forced to retreat. While the Drakøns made an orderly withdrawal it was at the cost of two battalions. When they reached the continental capital of Redfev the Drakøns fled New Caledonia for Rasalhague, ceding the planet to Clan Wolf.[46]

Jihad

During the Jihad, Clan Hell's Horses launched a invasion of the Clan Wolf holdings in the Inner Sphere, acquiring holdings for their own relocation to Spheroid space. New Caledonia was one of the first worlds targeted, and was attacked in the opening wave of attacks that fell between the 21st and 28th of February 3071.[33]
