Mara's economy is based on agricultural production. The wide plains, with fertile soils, allow the world to produce food for many neighboring planets. This fertile soil also permits allows a wide variety of tree species to flourish. Logging forms another large part of the planet's economy. Most of the world's industry is devoted to the production of IndustrialMechs, particularly ForestryMechs and ConstructionMechs. The Mara Trout is found in many freshwater lakes and rivers, and forms a large part of Mara's export market.[1]

Planetary History[edit]

Star League[edit]

During the final years of the Star League, Mara was the host to a Star League Defense Force garrison.[53]

Third Succession War[edit]

Mara was attacked by the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery in 3015 with two regiments of Dieron Regulars and a regiment of the Third Benjamin Regulars. The Benjamin regulars, commanded by the Warlord of Benjamin, were instrumental in the capture of the planet from the Federated Suns. When the Dieron Regulars were pinned down on Mara, a battalion of the Benjamin Regulars loaded up on their DropShips while under fire, maneuvering to the other side of the Davion forces and redeploying there. This took the opposing forces off guard, and let them split them apart, saving the Dieron Regulars from further losses and sealing the fate of the planet.[23]

Dark Age[edit]

On 13 December 3132, forces from the Federated Suns launched a raid against Mara.[54] The raiders consisted of elements of the Robinson Rangers, led by Erik Sandoval-Groell, who was attempting to claim the system for the Federated Suns. The planetary militia were commanded by a younger cousin of Erik's, Christine Sandoval, and fought off the Rangers; the militia were themselves contemplating switching loyalties to the Draconis Combine.[55]

June-September 3133 was marked by a destructive armed conflict between two neighboring villages, Ghiruto Falls and Santu Txikili, over the forest they shared logging rights to. Driven by the economic disruption of the Blackout, the Salice County Sap War ended with large-scale death in both villages and the destruction of the shared forest.[47]

Following the activation of Fortress Republic, Mara was left an independent world until it was annexed by the Draconis Combine.[48][49] The planet was attacked by the Republic in 3149 during Operation ERUPTIO and subsequently claimed by the Federated Suns, although by mid-3152 its ownership was being contested by the Combine.[56][3]
