The Cylene system was home to at least one habitable world, Cylene II, and as of 3151 was located in the Ashio Prefecture of the Dieron Military District within the Draconis Combine.[2]

System Description[edit]

The Cylene system is located near the Markab and Skat systems spinward from Terra[3][4] and consists of a class F9V primary orbited by at least two planets.[1]

System History[edit]

The Cylene system was colonized at some point prior to the end of the Age of War.[5] An early Age of War battle between the Terran Hegemony and the Draconis Combine was fought near Cylene. During the battle a disabled Combine fighter made a kamikaze assault upon the TAS Dreadnought, igniting a near-catastrophic fire that almost destroyed the ship.[6]

Cylene II - more commonly known simply as Cylene - is the second planet in the system and has three moons named Allestra, Hermione and Joseppe.[1] Cylene has three major continents named Absalom, Clytemnestra and Graus. Absalom runs almost completely around the planetary equator, while Graus lies in the north and Clymenestra the south. Cylene has been steadily moving into an ice age since its discovery by humans, and is becoming increasingly inimical to human life as a consequence; by the thirty-second century the temperature at the equator was near-freezing.[1]

It has been noted through the years that the planet's 1.26 gravities tend to make its citizens stockier and more powerful.[49]

Planetary History[edit]

Third Succession War[edit]

Draconis Combine forces were driven off of Cylene during the Second Battle of Cylene II.[50] They reclaimed it in the Battle of Cylene (3020).

Dark Age[edit]

By the mid-thirty-second century the population of Cylene had declined significantly from its peak, thanks to the steadily advancing planetary ice age and the damage inflicted on the planet during the Succession Wars. Cylene still had abundant supplies of ores and mineral resources located near the surface, and these were the only reason that the planet had been inhabited for as long as it had been; it was widely expected that when the readily extracted ore supplies were exhausted, the population of the planet would decline sharply as the population headed for more temperate planets.[1]

During the Draconis Combine Civil War Cylene was the site of one of many defeats suffered by Katana Tormark's rebels.[51]

Notes[edit]

  • In at least one product, the planet's name is misspelt as Cyclene II.[21]
  • The Wolf's Dragoons sourcebook states that Wolf's Dragoons raided Davion forces on Cylene in 3026. However, all evidence suggests that the world was already in Draconis Combine hands at that time. So this information is considered incorrect until corroborating information can be found.[60]
  • The names for the Planetary Governor of Cylene and Legate for Cylene are both mentioned in Dark Age: Republic Worlds (3130) and Dark Age: Republic of the Sphere. However, they are reversed in the Republic of the Sphere publication. As it is dated as the later product, the information there takes precedence.
