The Broken Wheel system was home to at least one habitable world, Broken Wheel VI, and as at 3145 was located in the Filtvelt Coalition.[2][3]

System Description

The Broken Wheel system is located near the Marielund and Wetumpka systems[2][3] and consists of a class G0V primary orbited by at least five planets. During the late thirty-first century a recharge station was in place at the system zenith jump point.[1]

System History

The Broken Wheel system had been colonised by the end of the Age of War[4] and was a member of the Federated Suns continuously until the late thirty-first century.

Broken Wheel V

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Broken Wheel V - more commonly known simply as Broken Wheel - is the fifth planet in the Broken Wheel system and has a single moon named Axle.[1]

Planetary History

Broken Wheel was part of the Federated Suns from the Age of War until the Jihad.

On October 3069, an unknown pirate band struck the PDZ capital of Broken Wheel. Using a force of light BattleMechs (one Battle Hawk and two other 'Mechs), half a dozen Patron LoaderMechs and six Plainsman the pirates where able to hold back metropolitan police forces while they ransacked a total of nineteen banks and currency exchanges in New Porter, leaving prior to the arrival of the Broken Wheel Crucis March Militia. The pirates Dropship easily outpaced the older aerospace fighters available to the militia.[5]

When the Filtvelt Coalition formed, Broken Wheel joined in order to present a united front against pirates active in the Malagrotta Cooperative. The Coalition eagerly accepted Broken Wheel's application for admission in order to get control of a vehicle repair facility.[1]

In late 3080 or early 3081 the Filtvelt Coalition upgraded the Quickscell Company repair facility on Broken Wheel to enable it to produce hovercraft as a part of a general expansion of the Coalition's military manufacturing.[6]

The Dark Age

Broken Wheel was struck by the Border Lords pirate band in 3101, soon after the Border Lords had fled the Calderon Protectorate in search of easier hunting. The Border Lords dropped a mixed battalion of BattleMechs, infantry and armor on Broken Wheel and rampaged through Conestoga while moving towards the Quikscell Company facility nearby. Opposing the Border Lords were elements of the Second Filtvelt Citizen's Militia, who began firing on the Border Lords while the pirates were still in Conestoga. The Second had a company of HD-2F Hound 'Mechs available, augmented by a mixture of Pegasus Scout Hovertanks and Light Thunderbolt Carriers manufactured on Broken Wheel.[7]

The Second had detailed knowledge of the layout of Conestoga and used the tight and twisting streets to their advantage; the city streets limited the mobility of the Border Lords, who were primarily equipped with light and medium 'Mechs, and the Second continually used their Hounds to ambush the Border Lords or lay down fire lanes. The pirates found themselves steadily losing 'Mechs; then, when the Border Lords tried to retreat, the Second cut them off, pinning the pirates in place long enough for the Hounds to wipe out the enemy infantry and armor units. Roughly half of the pirate 'Mechs managed to escape offworld without any of the materiel they'd hoped to capture.[7]
