Description[edit]
MechWarrior: Dark Age Starter Set is the first starter set for use in the MechWarrior: Dark Age collectable miniatures game.
From the Website[edit]
MechWarrior: Dark Age is the new Combat-Dial Game set in the BattleTech universe! MechWarrior includes a variety of infantry, hover tanks, and other vehicles which fight right alongside the 'Mechs that make the game so distinctive. MechWarrior uses a combination of all these units to give battles an incredible level of depth and strategy, while keeping the game fast and fun. Each type of unit has special abilities, making each unique and valuable in the game. This is a game that's easy to learn, but with deep combined arms strategies and tactics.
Each figure is on a combat-dial base similar to those used in Mage Knight and HeroClix, but MechWarrior is an advanced game and introduces a number of new abilities and rules that are specific to the BattleTech universe, such as heat and different methods of movement. There are 116 different figures in a complete set. Each Starter set includes 1 'Mech, 2 vehicles, and 5 infantry.
Contents[edit]
Each starter set includes:
- 8 randomly inserted MechWarrior miniatures: 1 'Mech, 2 vehicles, and 5 infantry units
- 1 rulebook
- 1 special equipment card
- 3 dice
- 1 flexible ruler
- Stickers
- Faction dossier
Faction Dossiers[edit]
The MechWarrior: Dark Age Faction Dossiers are a series of ten dossiers introducing the setting and factions of MechWarrior: Dark Age, framed as Order of Five Pillars intelligence reports. Unlike the similar pilot dossiers, the faction dossiers included in this Starter Set have not been republished by Catalyst Game Labs. Two, for the Stormhammers and the Republic Armed Forces, were made freely available on the WizKids website; the others were only released in print.
Overview[edit]
Faction dossiers were published in this Starter Set and on the MWDA website. One, Historical Overview, gave a timeline of the universe and short notes on the status of major houses and Clans. Another, on the Republic of the Sphere, introduced the faction and its Knights. The rest detailed the forces fighting over the Republic post-Blackout, including their elite, veteran, and green sub-units and their mottos. Similar, but not identical, writeups would later appear in Era Digest: Dark Age.
List of Dossiers[edit]
The MechWarrior: Dark Age Starter Set included eight dossiers:
- Bannson's Raiders
- Dragon's Fury
- Highlanders
- Historical Overview
- Republic of the Sphere
- Spirit Cats
- Steel Wolves
- Swordsworn
In 2003, WizKids published two additional dossiers as PDFs on the MWDA website:
