The Carstairs system was home to at least one habitable world or construct and as at 3145 was an independent system located in the Clan Jade Falcon Occupation Zone.[1][2]

System Description

The Carstairs system is located near the Breukelen and Leganes systems.[1][2]

System History

The Carstairs system was colonised during the First Exodus from Terra and was an independent system[3] prior to being incorporated into the Lyran Commonwealth at some point during or shortly before the Age of War.[4]

According to an apocryphal source (the German BattleTech novel Duo Infernale), the fourth planet in the Carstairs system was named New Tucson. As of 3061 the habitable planet was the site of a major copper mining operation by FrictionTechInc. who had hired a small mercenary outfit consisting of seven BattleMechs and infantry for protection. The whole operation was a clandestine ComStar operation in search of a Star League facility on the planet. It was found, but the operation had been betrayed and on 9 April 3061 the mercenary base was wiped out in a surprise attack. Four nuclear bombs were stolen from the Star League cache and a fifth set to detonate with a timer, destroying the cache and (it is implied) the entire mining operation.
