Planetary Info
Shitara was originally settled not for agricultural or manufacturing reasons, but to serve as a regional transportation hub. With access to many star systems, Shitara was ideally placed to serve as a waystation and refueling point for expeditions into the further reaches of the Inner Sphere. With exploration and transportation in mind, a consortium of companies funded the initial exploration and colonization of the world. With arid grasslands and deserts covering most of its surface, and fresh water a rare commodity, these early colonies faced a tough challenge. Fortunately they were able to survive, and even thrive-quite an accomplishment considering several early colonies were nothing more than collections of warehouses.[1] As more immigrants and explorers pushed into what would become the Draconis Combine, Shitara's population grew. New cities and businesses, particularly in the service industries, flourished.
Protected by its distance from borders, Shitara was spared most of the horrors of the Amaris Civil War and Succession Wars. As a result, Shitara continued to grow and prosper, eventually hosting over 30 spaceports. In fact during Operation SCOUR Shitara served as a staging area for Coalition forces.[1]
Dark Ages
The Swordsworn try to take the planet, but are beaten back by Draconis Combine forces, but not before being able to salvage one of the Combine's latest designs. the Shiro and perform a basic analysis before being overtaken by the DCMS forces.[2]
