System Description[edit]
The Al Na'ir system consists of five planets orbiting a single class A9II primary star.[1] The system also has more than one asteroid belt, and at least one defense manufacturer—Yori 'Mech Works—was operating production facilities and lines within the asteroid belts at one point.[2] During the thirty-first century the Al Na'ir had a working recharge station located at the zenith jump point within the system.[1]
System History[edit]
The Al Na'ir system was settled at some point during the twenty-fifth century.[4]

Al Na'ir V—commonly referred to simply as Al Na'ir—is the fifth planet in the Al Na'ir system. The world possesses vast mineral resources and has at various times in history served as the local Prefecture capital world for both the Draconis Combine and the Republic of the Sphere. Al Na'ir has been home to a number of major industrial facilities, some of which included facilities located on asteroid belts within the system. Al Na'ir has a single moon named Taliswan.[1][2]
Planetary History[edit]
Age of War[edit]
Al Na'ir V was originally settled by the Azami in the twenty-fifth century[4] to gain access to the rich resources available on the planet.[2]
First Succession War[edit]
When the Dragon took control of Al Na'ir and integrated the Arkab Legions into the Arm of the Dragon, the Combine created the School for Cultural Investigation on Al Na'ir's surface. This school was popular with many members of the Combine nobility and higher-educational system as it was one of the few places that the Combine approved of "foreigners."[2]
Third Succession War[edit]
In 3010, a BattleMech facility that was a joint venture by Luthien Armor Works and Alshain Weapons was damaged. It would not be until 3025 that it went back to production.[59]
In early 3025, the Federated Suns attacked Al Na'ir.[60]
Clan Invasion Era[edit]
The vast mineral wealth and relatively open nature of the system made it a key strategic asset for the Dragon by the 3050s. Though raided many times by the Federated Suns and later the Federated Commonwealth, the Dragon retained control of the system and the population had suffered relatively few attacks.
Jihad[edit]
During the Jihad, however, that changed forever. The Word of Blake sent large numbers of aerospace fighter–carrying DropShips and Pocket WarShips to the system. These Blakist units scoured the asteroid belts, destroying the Yori 'Mech Works assembly lines and inflicting severe losses on the population by destroying their domed cities.[2] By mid-March 3069, Al Na'ir had been conquered by the Blakists and incorporated into the Word of Blake Protectorate.[46]
Having been occupied by the Word of Blake, Al Na'ir was targeted for liberation by the allied coalition assembled by Devlin Stone; coalition forces assaulted Al Na'ir on 1 July 3076 as one of four planetary assaults on Protectorate worlds that took place simultaneously, with the other strikes targeting the Rio, Rochelle, and Van Diemen IV systems.[61][62]
Dark Age[edit]
After the Jihad Al Na'ir was made the capital world of Prefecture II within the Republic of the Sphere. The Prefecture's capital city was built on Cedar Rock (the largest continent) and named Phoenix. The planet's traditional capital city, Homai-Zaki, was also rebuilt by the Republic and is also located on Cedar Rock.[2]
Following the Blackout Al Na'ir was reclaimed by the Draconis Combine in June 3135. During the conquest, the Benjamin Military District Warlord Mitsura Sakamoto ordered the breaching of Phoenix Dome, killing thirty million inhabitants.[54][63] So many skilled workers were killed in the atrocity that even a decade later the Scarborough Manufacturers plant was still affected.[64]
