New Hope
Planetary History
Early History
New Hope was colonized during the twenty-second century and, along with Tania Borealis, served as the base from which Helm was discovered and settled.[2]
First Succession War
New Hope would fall under the control of the Lyran Commonwealth in 2818 as part of Operation SPIDERWEB.[10]
Second Succession War
Captain-General Charles Marik attempted to overcome intelligence blind spots due to the poor condition of SAFE by asking his sister, Jeannette Marik, to use her ComStar ties to provide Lyran and Capellan military information in 2830. He did not realize that Jeannette would immediately inform the Primus Conrad Toyama of his request.[32]
Recognizing he had an opportunity beyond merely dragging the League into the Second Succession War, Toyama provided Jeannette with a document supposedly from the Lyran high command containing plans for the invasion of Graham IV, Castor and Callison. Jeannette passed on the seemingly important transmission to her brother in mid-June, never questioning its authenticity. Charles then refused to accept Lyran denials that such attacks weren't planned and ordered his troops into a state of readiness to launch his own attack against House Steiner, forcing the LCAF to respond in kind and create the threat the faked documents claimed.[32]
Charles Marik would have Free Worlds League forces attack New Hope and Dieudonné in the summer of 2830 as part of Operation TALON. The Second Succession War had officially begun.[33][34]
On August 19th, 2830, the New Hope system was again under the control of the Free Worlds League.[34]
However, in 2831, a Lyran Commonwealth counter attack on New Hope would bring the system back into Commonwealth control where it would stay through the remainder of the Second Succession War.[13][14]
Third Succession War
The New Hope system was reclaimed by the Free Worlds League in 2869.[35]
Jihad
Despite having been occupied by the Word of Blake during the Jihad and incorporated into the Protectorate, New Hope was free before the allied coalition forces prosecuting the Free Worlds front of Operation SCOUR arrived on the planet on the 10th of June 3077. The coalition troops arrived only to discover that the local government had already removed their Blakist rulers.[25]
Dark Age
After the formation of the Republic of the Sphere via the Republic Formation Treaty of March 15, 3081, forces from the Silver Hawk Coalition would seize New Hope. The response from the Republic was to launch a swift counter attack. Alys Rousset-Marik created several contingency plans in case of acts of aggression from her former homeland. Thus in April 3081, Operation GOLDEN DAWN was launched by Republic military forces against eight worlds, including New Hope. By the end of April, New Hope was firmly back in Republic control.[36]
