Alchiba III - more commonly known simply as Alchiba - was the third planet in the Alchiba system.

Planetary History[edit]

During the Star League era Alchiba was jointly administered by the Terran Hegemony and Lyran Commonwealth. The southern hemisphere of the world was exploited for industrial purposes, while the northern hemisphere was developed for agricultural purposes. The lack of any military industry or presence meant that Alchiba wasn't a target of the Rim Worlds Republic forces that invaded the Terran Hegemony. After the fall of the Star League, the Lyran Commonwealth took complete control of the world. Despite its industrial possibilities, Alchiba suffered only a few raids during the Succession Wars, and it was almost completely ignored by the Jihad.[1]

Jihad[edit]

However, while Alchiba was largely ignored by the Jihad itself, it was swept up into the border war between the Lyran Alliance and Free Worlds League. Following the invasion of the Free Worlds League by the Skye and Bolan Provinces of the Lyran Alliance in what was termed Operation ÜBERSCHATTEN, Marshall Jeremy Brett took command of the local Free Worlds League Military and launched a counteroffensive, under the name Operation BROKEN FIST. BROKEN FIST went beyond simply attempting to recapture worlds that the Lyrans had seized, striking into Lyran space at numerous worlds. Alchiba was one of the worlds hit and was captured by the League on the 1st of September 3068.[37]

Geography[edit]

Alchiba III is a warm world with an extreme axial tilt, which has shaped the surface of the world into two distinct zones; the southern hemisphere is covered with arid badlands, while the north is a temperate zone. The southernmost continents--Frome, Nakkara and Priez--are largely dominated by deserts and barren mountains, due to their lack of inland water sources. Havenri, the polar northern continent and its surrounding island chains have fertile soil and a temperate climate suitable for agriculture. This contrast in conditions is a result of the planet's axial tilt making the northern hemisphere receive less direct sunlight than the southern hemisphere and the equator.[1]
